A medieval brooch consisting of a square frame with four lobes, one at the centre of each side. The internal edge of the frame is chamfered and on one side has an aperture into which is inserted the pin. The pin is bent and has a collar of punched decoration. The pin appears at some point to have been separated from the frame of the brooch and has been reattached the wrong way round. The frame too is badly distorted and broken along one edge. Cast copper alloy Early Medieval polyhedral pin, dating to the 8-9th centuries. The pin head has four main faces, each with a ring-and-dot motif on. They are all facetted at the corners giving the head the polyhedral effect. There is a small moulded collar between the head and the shaft. The shaft is sub-circular in cross-section and is corroded and worn along its length although originally it would have tapered towards the end. The shaft is broken before the end.
