Cast copper alloy Early Medieval buckle, dating to the 10th-11th centuries.
It has a plate cast integrally to the frame with a split end, imitating strap ends of this period. The plate is sub-rectangular narrowing slightly towards the frame. There is a hole at the base where the pin is fitted. The pin is formed by a strip of copper alloy hooked through this hole. The buckle frame is square with a triangular extension at the end away from the plate. The outside is decorated with punched angular dots in a line around. Cast copper alloy polyhedral Anglo-Saxon pin head.
It has six sqaure faces, each of which has its corners facetted to give eight small triangular faces. The shaft is sub-circular in cross-section and has broken almost immediately below the head.
