Circular iron domed stud, with remains of broad circular-sectioned shank/pin on the reverse, now broken. Two iron nails of uncertain date. The shafts have rectangular cross-sections and narrow away from the head, they are both broken before the terminals. Record ID: DUR-6D49C4
Object type: TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: County Durham
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Iron blade, probably a knife, most likely Post Medieval in date. The knife begins to curve around half way down the blade. At this point it also narrows (from 20.46mm to 7.57mm). It seems to have a rectangular cross section. It is very corroded and so little detail can be seen on it. Iron tools such as this take a similar form over many centuries and so stray finds such as this are difficult to date precisely. Due to corrosion levels in the area it is unlikely this is pre the Post Medieval period as it would probably not have survived.
