Cast copper alloy Medieval mount, most likely from a casket or a box, c. 12-1500 AD in date.
It has a rectangular shaft with a fleur-de-lys terminal which has a width of 18.61mm and a thickness of 1.78mm. This terminal has a circular hole in the centre and grooved lines dividing the three segments. There is a small collar where it meets the shaft. The shaft has a D-shaped cross section and is broken at the end, possibly where another fleur-de-lys terminal would have been.
There are traces of gilding on the upper surface.

Cast copper alloy Medieval box or casket mount, dating from the 13-15th century.
It is incomplete, L-shaped in plan with two sections which are connected by a hinge piece. The surface was gilded, small fragments of this now remain on the horizontal section.
The mount is flat on the inside/reverse, where it would have attached to the casket/box. On the inside horizontal section there is a circular hole where a rivet would have been, and the remains of a small bent rivet.
The outside/front of the mount is decorated with relief decoration. On the hoirzontal section the decoration is worn but was possibly bands. The holes for the rivets are also visible. The vertical section decoration is still visible and seems to be zoomorphic in form. The terminal is rounded, and just before it is a raised band, possibly meant to represent eyes, with the flattened terminal a nose/snout. Where the piece bends at 90 degrees there are two sub-triangular raised bits, representing ears. In between the ears and eyes the piece is decorated with a central grooved line, on either side of which are diagonal lines running to the edge.
The horizontal section is the part which is in two. The hinge is near the left end (when viewed on the image) and only a small part remains of the second section. It is thickest at the hinge, narrowing to the end. The broken end appears to be the start of a circular perforation, with semi-circle taken out of the end. There is also a circular hole (now infilled with mud) which would possibly have been another rivet hole.
