Cast copper alloy fantail Roman brooch dating to the second half of the 2nd century AD. It is a hinged example but the pin and mechanism are missing. The pin attached to a bar which was help between two loops on the reverse of the head. The headloop is broken but is cast integrally to the brooch. Below this the head has two short, rectangular wings with vertical grooves (on some examples this is stepping). The upper bow is curved and has a square cross-section. Cast coppper alloy headstud brooch dating to c.75- 175 AD. The hook on the top of the head has broken. This hook would have held the spring in place behind the short square ended wings. The spring and pin are missing leaving just the chord on the reverse. The headstud is a small circular stud with a central circle in the centre. Below this is a small section which consists of two horizontal raised lines. The upper bow consists of a flat rectangular plate which has a beaded line at the top. It would have had a headloop, the base of which can be seen whilst the rest has broken off. The wings are short and square ended and one has broken off. Cast copper alloy Roman decorative fitting, probably harness, of Taylor and Brailsford (1985) Type 3. It would have been lozenge shape in plan when complete. It is incomplete having missing the lower quarter. The two side quarters are taken up by the hollow circular domes which have a groove around their bases. The two domes are linked by a small rectangular section. The upper and lower quarters have a triangular perforation before a triangular domed section which is also hollow on the reverse.
