Button and loop fastener or strap terminal
Fragment of a cast copper-alloy button and loop fastener or strap terminal.
This object comprises only the loop section, which is sub-circular in plan, tapering towards where it would have met the 'button'.
Parallels: This fragment resembles the loops from many other fittings from both the related 1843 hoard and the 2011 assemblage. It is not possible to identify the form of the original object from this fragment, but it is highly likely that it formed part of a button and loop fastener (cf Wild 1970) or strap terminal (cf MacGregor 1962).

Surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate gold content for the strip of 92-94%, with a silver content of 5-6%, the remainder being copper; it weighs 1.57 grams.
The find consists of a length of narrow gold strip of triangular section with punched decoration of apex-to-apex triangles along the top ridge; it is broken at both ends; length, 32.5 mm. The decoration is very worn and abraded in places and there are cracks along the edges caused by distortion. The surface of the base is unworn, however, except for slight abrasion at one end. The strip i…

Gilded copper alloy chain mail armour hook, broken into two pieces. When complete, this would have been an S-shaped object in plan, with circular terminals, one of a pair which together would have formed a hinged lyre-shaped fitting (see M.120). The smaller fragment consists of one terminal. The rest of the object is complete. The front surface appears to have been gilded, and shows moulded decoration. There is a raised moulded band running down the centre of the S-shape, with a hatched central line. On either side of this ridge is a line of punched circular motifs. On the circular te…

Chain mail armour
Flat, irregular lump of corroded iron chain mail. Copper alloy corrosion may mark the area where a boss or other fitting was once attached.
Parallels: Similar to other Late Iron Age chainmail fragments recovered from the area, e.g. M.117, M.118, and the mail attaching to find no.s 4-7 from this group.

Object type: FURNITURE FITTING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Published
Cast copper alloy fragment of a Post Medieval drawer handle.
It has a strip of copper alloy folded over through the top loop, presumably to attach the fitting to the drawer. The main body has a rectangular attachment loop with protruding corners and a raised lower line. It then narrows to a neck, before widening into what would have been a sub-rectangular body with leaf/floriate design on the front. This has broken only a short way down.

Roman copper alloy expanding bracelet made of a single piece of circular sectioned wire, 3rd century in date.
The ends of the wire are overlapped and then each is wrapped around the main loop of the bracelet giving an adjustable catch. The ends taper from the point they start being wrapped around, one end is wrapped around five times, the other three. It is slightly out of shape, measuring 93.54mm x 76.56mm in diameter.
Crummy (1983) illustrates a very similar bracelet (page 39 no.1601) from a third century context in Colchester.
