Medieval copper alloy rectangular strap fitting with central bar and missing its pin, or alternatively a possible strap loop. Most likely 14th century. It is sub-rectangular in plan with a scallop on the outer edge (width of scallop- 10.86mm). It has been squashed slightly out of shape. The central bar is not in the middle, meaning one section is larger than the other. There has been some discussion on the PAS FLO Forum as to whether these objects are buckles, as none have been found with a pin and the height of the axis bar would make it rather clumsy. Cast copper alloy strap fitting, probably a strap junction, from the Post Medieval period. It is circular in plan (37.511m x 32.37mm) and slightly domed. . The upper surface is decorated by four sets of curved lines, in pairs, coming from the centre of the fitting, to the edge. There are also two circular perforations, one of which is now filled up with corrosion. It has two prongs on the reverse, which are quite 6.90mm wide, project 9.12mm down, and are sub-triangular in plan. These probably fitted onto the strap, or another plate.

Cast copper alloy Medieval bar mount from the 13-14th centuries. It consists of a central circular boss which has a central circular hole. It is domed and hollow on the reverse, the front is decorated with cross hatching. There are two lobes, one extending from each end which finish in a semi-circular terminal. These terminals have the remains of studs which would have attached the mount to the belt. Examples of this type of mount have been found in London and can be seen in Egans Dress Accessories, p. 214, no. 1160/1161.

These objects usually have a gap in between the two central pieces in order to allow it to 'swivel' but this does not seem to have this facililty. The arms of the loops are irregular in size and shape so it is possible that this is a mis-cast.

Cast copper alloy Post Medieval hook from a strap fitting. It is the hook part only from a multi-part fitting, probably from a sword belt. The upper section is broken, being part of what would be a rectangular plate. It has a triangular cross-section and has a rivet on the reverse. It is likely there would have been another rivet if the plate was complete. The plate leads into the hook section which loops back and touches the base of the plate. At the junction between the plate and the hook is a raised transverse line. Read nos. 807-8, p225 (2008) is a more complete example.

It is worn and corroded on the suface so the decoration on the body is difficult to define. It could be Trewhiddle style which would define it as Class A Type 1 but this is not definite. The zoomorphic terminal consists of an animal head, with the nose and ears picked out in relief. At the split end there are two circular holes for rivets to attach the strap end, these rivets are now missing.

The plate is decorated on one side with a degenerate Winchester style motif formed of a series of reserved cells creating a symmetrical plant scroll motif. Cast copper alloy strap end dating to the 9-11th centuries. It is a Thomas Class B Type 4, multi-headed type. Thomas describes Class B strap ends as having a split end and a zoomorphic terminal. The strap end appears complete, with decoration in relief on the front and a flat plain reverse. It has been silvered on the surface. The decoration consists of an animal head terminal above which is another animal head with the back of the heads meeting. This second head then touches noses with another identical animal head. Above this third head is the split terminal which is free from decoration.

Cast copper alloy Post Medieval spur, 1600- 1700. Side and slightly down-turned neck of a rowel spur, the neck is bifurcated (the gap is now filled with mud) and the terminals widen. The arms (so far as survives) have straight D-section sides, one is broken close to the neck(39.8mm), the other is complete (89.39mm). The complete arm ends in a circular terminal (diameter of 10.54mm) which has a circular stud attached (diameter of 13.33mm), where the spur would then have attached to the boot. A cast copper alloy spoon dating to the first or second century AD. The spoon has a round bowl with a ridge on its underside where the stem meets the bowl. The stem is circular in section where it meets the bowl but then flattens, becomes hollow and C shaped further along its length. It is broken. The spoon has a white metal coating on all its surfaces. The spoon can be classified as a Crummy Type 1 (Crummy 1983, p. 70)

A silver seal matrix, the conical handle (with slight hexagonal facets) having broken off; the break appears fresh and granular. The die is slightly oval, being longer than it is wide. It has a grooved and beaded border around a neatly engraved shield of arms, with no inscription. The shield has a flat top, very slightly concave sides, and an ogee curve to the base. Cast copper alloy Medieval vessica shaped seal matrix. The front of the seal has a central motif with the inscription around the edge. It is mostly complete but the edges are broken and so most of the inscription is missing, the only section remaining reads 'BENED'[ICT..]. The motif is religious in nature, showing a central figure under an arch (probably a saint), meant to represent being inside a church. Lead Medieval seal matrix, c.1200- 1400. It was originally vesica shaped but has broken almost in half. It is also bent so that the edges now curve slightly downwards. The central motif appears to be either a corn ear or another plant. The inscription reads 'S'INCH....' So it is a person seal, unfortunately not enough of the legend can be made out to work out who owned it. On the reverse, near to the top is a small rounded loop, now filled with mud.

Copper alloy die from a revolving seal matrix of Post-Medieval date. The die is circular in plan and has an incised/stamped design on both faces. One side consists of a male bust right, possibly meant to have a laureate crown in a classical style although the image is quite crudely done. The other side has a symbol which consists of a large triangle with a curved base, across the middle of which is a V. Cast copper alloy Medieval seal matrix from c. 1200- 1400. It is complete with an off-centre handle wneding is a pointed terminal. There is a central circular hole in the top as an attachment loop. Below the loop is a doubel moulded collar. The handle is hexagonal in section. The seal is circular in plan and is a 'h' with a palm frond next to it. The surface has possibly been silvered although it is now mostly worn away and there is some surface corrosion so this is difficult to be certain of.

Copper alloy Medieval seal matrix. It is complete having a circular base with the seal. The handle is short and squat. It has a pointed lozenge shaped terminal with a central circular hole. Below this is a moulded collar with a wide band in between two thin bads. The seal reads 'S'RADVLPH DE DVNFELD' (Seal of Radulp of Dunfield) around an image of a lamb walking right, looking back over its shoulder with a flag.

Cast copper alloy Medieval seal matrix, c.1200-1400. It has an oval shaped seal face and a handle rising out of this. The face of the seal has the legend around the edge of a central motif. This central image seems to be a face. The legend is difficult to read, even when an impression was made due to wear. There are two possible readings- S'ECER_IL_SVR______S or S'ELERE_IVEWI.... Either reading shows that it is a personal seal with the S' representing sigillum (Seal of...).

Cast copper alloy Post Medieval fob seal, mostly likely 19th century in date. It is made completely of copper alloy, with the seal section being just a flat oval disc of copper alloy (measuring 17.49mm by 14.84mm). The symbol on the seal is a masonic symbol, The Square, Compasses and Letter 'G'. This is one of the most common symbols of the Freemasons. There are varying theories as to what it represents. The arms of the seal form a robust openwork design with floriate decoration, terminating in a circular attachment loop, set perpendicular to the seal.

Cast copper alloy base of a Medieval seal matrix. It has a circular base with incised decoration. This consists of 'IC' with a star above and star below, inside a simple circle. The IC is probably representing Iesu Christo (Jesus Christ). The seal is broken just at the base of the handle which would have extended upwards and ended in a loop.

Cast copper alloy 18th century fob seal frame. The actual seal die is missing but would have been oval in shape and probably carved glass or gemstone. The frame at the base has a decorated ring which the seal would have sat in. There are then two semicircular arms which curve round to meet above this ring. There is a circular attachment loop set perpendicular to the arms at the top. This sort seal would have hung from a gentleman's chain, a chain that was also used for the suspension of a fob watch.

Cast copper alloy and enamel complete Roman seal box. It is complete with both the lid and the base. The pin holding the two together has been lost so they can separate. It is a circular example with the upper face of the lid decorated with enamel. This consists of a central circle of red and the outer section in blue. The circular tab also has red enamel. Underneath this tab has a small knop which which fits into the bottom section as a catch. The base has a tab with a small hollow into which the knop from the upper tab sits. Copper alloy lid of a Roman seal box, 2nd- 3rd century in date. It would have been tear drop shaped but the lower point has broken away. The catch is at the rounded end and all that remains are the two outer prongs. The upper surface of the lid is flat and plain. It is decorated with three circular perforations, two at the top and one at the broken end.

The shield is surrounded by a border of pellets. A bale seal is different to a cloth seal, it is put on the outside of a bale of cloth or other merchandise, usually on string. This seal was found in the same field as 6 others.
