Copper alloy die from a revolving seal matrix of Post-Medieval date.
The die is circular in plan and has an incised/stamped design on both faces. One side consists of a male bust right, possibly meant to have a laureate crown in a classical style although the image is quite crudely done. The other side has a symbol which consists of a large triangle with a curved base, across the middle of which is a V.
There is a hole at opposites sides of the matrix which would have allowed an axis bar to pass through and the die to rotate. The die is made from copper alloy but appears t…

Cast copper alloy buckle fragment from the Medieval period.
Just less than half remains. It would have been D-shaped with a narrowed strap bar. The terminals of the buckle before the strap bar are zoomorphic heads with the strap bar coming out of the animals mouth. The animal is possibly a dog, similar to the style seen on Late Medieval ewer spouts.
A similar buckle can be seen on the database recorded as NARC-B9F980

Object type: HARNESS PENDANT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: County Durham
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy Medieval harness pendant, quatrefoil in plan, dating to c.12-1400.
It is quatrefoil in plan with some red enamel remaining from the design. It is worn on both the front and the back and the suspension loop is missing. It is difficult to see what the design would have been originally due to the wear and the loss of enamel. It was probably a griffin passant in red enamel similar to no.202 in Ashley.

It is lozenge shape in plan with an attachment loop at the top which has now broken off. The front face is decorated in relief with enamel filling in the field. There is a central W with a fleur-de-lys above. It is possible there were other symbols in the field but it is difficult to see due to the corrosion. The enamel is very corroded but appears to have been dark blue or black. There are fragments of gilding remaining which indicate the border and the design were gilded.
The pendant is now quite badly co…
