Lead papal bulla of Pope Innocent III, 1198-1216.
It would have been circular in plan but it has been broken and so is irregular. The obverse is much more worn than the reverse. Both sides have a beaded border. The obverse of the bulla contains the legend INNOCENTIVS PP III, PP standing for 'Pastor Pastorum' or 'Shepherd of Shepherds'. The obverse has a border of pellets. On the reverse can be seen depictions of Saints Peter and Paul beneath an inscription reading SPASPE (an abbreviation standing for St. Paul and St. Peter). It has 13 faces, 12 of which have ring and dot motifs as decoration. The upper face has a cross on. It has a moulded collar at the junction with the pin. The pin has broken so only a short length remains. The shaft is circular in cross-section.

Cast copper alloy Medieval belt mount.
It is domed with a central circular section and two rectangular terminals, one at each end. There is a perforation in each end with a rivet in each which would have been used to attach the mount to a belt. The rivets are c.4mm long. The central lobe has been crudely cross-hatched

Cast copper alloy Post Medieval dress hook dating from the 16-17th centuries.
It is an openwork design, Read Class E, Type 5 (2008, 109-110). The hook has broken just below the main body. The design is that of a Hungerford knot, a central larger hole with two smaller ones above. The attachment loop is rectangular and has a moulded circular flower on each vertical bar just above the main body. There is also a moulded design below the main body where the hook begins, this could be a face as has been seen on other examples but it is not clear from the image.

Cast copper alloy stud which is decorated with enamel, Roman in date.
It is circular in plan and 3.23mm thick. It has recesses on the front face for the enamel. The design is a central four petalled flower with a border on the edge of the stud. The flower has white petals. The field around the flower is empty although it could have held enamel. The border appears to have been made of alternating squares of enamel all the way around, most of the red still remains, the other colour could be blue although very little is visible.

Lead Post Medieval disc from a large four-part cloth seal that has been cut as for a whizzer (or whirligig). The disc is circular with a zig zag edge. The front face has a crowned triple-rose with flowering plant motif at the sides, in relief. This is probably a part of a seal from the first ten years of George I reign, for a complete example see Egans book (1993, p74-5 no. 197).

It is complete although the hoop narrows at certain points due to wear and corrosion. The bezel is flat with an incised decoration. Fragment of a copper alloy Roman dragonesque brooch.
It is incomplete, one head has broken off, leaving the body and one head. It has enamelled recessed panels on the front and is flat on the back.
The design on the body consists of a central circle which has a cross inside with a lozenge shape at the centre of the cross. The area on each side of the circle is split into three triangles. The body is sub-oval with a knop with a moulded collar at the terminal. It is decorated with ring and dot motifs on both sides on the main body. One side has a single motif in the centre. It has broken into two pieces. Both of the two side arms are present and appear complete as they end in slightly rounded terminals. They have a sub-rectangular cross-section and narrow slightly towards the ends.

Left- A light brown/orange material. It is possibly a late Neolithic tranchet arrowhead. Sub-triangular in plan with the two upper sides being slightly concave and a median ridge on each point from the centre.
Middle- Grey material which fades from a dark to a light shade from top to bottom. Irregular in plan with one curved edge. Possibly a late Neolithic- Early Bronze Age scraper.

Three flint flakes/tools, all made from a light grey flint which has some white patches.
Left- Sub-triangular in plan, all the corners are rounded. There is some possible retouch along the edges. This is a blade, probably late Mesolithic in date.
Middle- Irregular shaped fragment with one rounded edge. This is most likely to be a flake of early Neolithic date.
Right- Late Mesolithic blade, the upper end is pointed and has been retouched on both sides of this point. There is a median ridge running the length of the blade.

It is mostly complete but one of the side lugs is missing and the mouth is cracked. The chamber is roughly circular in plan narrowing to the neck which is rectangular. The one remaining side lug is triangular. There is a design in relief on one face of the chamber. It is worn but appears to consist of a 6 pointed double line star in the centre with short radiating lines around it reaching to the edges.

Copper alloy fragment of a late Medieval dress hook.
It is a composite type with a central circular plate and the double ended hook attached on the reverse by a central rivet. The hook piece is a long pointed oval with both ends missing so they only just protrude past the edges of the circular plate and the hooked parts have broken off. The front of the circular plate is decorated with three incised concentric circles.

Cast copper alloy Post Medieval hook from a strap fitting.
It is the hook part only from a multi-part fitting, probably from a sword belt. The upper section is broken, being part of what would be a rectangular plate. It has a triangular cross-section and has a rivet on the reverse. It is likely there would have been another rivet if the plate was complete.
The plate leads into the hook section which loops back and touches the base of the plate. At the junction between the plate and the hook is a raised transverse line.
Read nos. 807-8, p225 (2008) is a more complete example.

Cast coppper alloy mount, Post Medieval in date.
It is complete but has been slightly bent out of shape. In plan it is symmetrical with each half being made up of two triangles laid with their points touching. In the centre is a raised transverse ridge. At each end the mount is decorated with a grooved transverse line.
The mount is D-shaped in cross-section with hollows behind the two central triangles. There is one rivet on the reverse at one end, there would have been another one at the opposite end but it has broken off.

Cast copper alloy Roman strap slide.
It is rectangular in plan and is incomplete with both long edges being broken and uneven. The front face is enamelled with a central line of 4 lozenges filled with yellow enamel. On either side of these lozenges are triangles filled with red enamel and on the outside of these is a row of larger blue triangles. The edges are then broken but it appears that there is a further row of red triangular cells on the outside edge.
The reverse is plain and has a rectangular loop which is placed just off-centre.

Cast bronze socketed axe from the early Ewart Park phase, Thorndon type. Dating to c.950-750 BC, Needham Period 7, Burgess Metalworking Stage XII.
The blade is bent. It narrows towards the point which is rounded. At its widest it is 21.23mm and its narrowest is 8.88mm. The blade has a raised mid-rib on both sides running the whole length.
The socket is oval in cross-section and has a circular hole through two opposite sides near the top. Diameter of socket is 22.33 x 16.25mm.

The brooch is nearly complete except for the pin and catchplate which are missing. The brooch can be separated into three primary elements which will be described in turn: the headplate, the bow and the foot. For purposes of description the headplate is at the top.

Copper alloy La Tene III type bow brooch dating to 1st century BC- 1st century AD.
A one-piece early bow brooch. It is mostly complete although the pin has broken just before the end and the catchplate is missing its hooked end. There are three turns in the spring, the wire looping below the spring to form the last loop.
The bow is flat in profile, extending out from the head at 90 degrees then going straight down to the catchplate. It narrows towards a point at the foot then the thin, rectangular catchplate extends out at 90 degrees behind the bow.

Cast copper alloy strap fastener from the Roman period, dating to the 1st century AD.
A circular hoop with a stud fixed to one side at the base. On the other side of the loop at the same point is a small rectangular loop. The stud is decorated with three concentric loops, the central and outer one are gilded.
The fastener has a mostly light green patina with some brown patches, all due to corrosion.

The loop is set on the reverse of the head. This is a slightly unusual type as the loop is also shaped as a teardrpo with a raised central circle. The head is larger than the loop and has a semi-circular hole before the pointed end.
The patina is a mix of brown and green patches.

Copper alloy La Tene I type bow brooch dating from c.4th-3rd century BC.
The brooch appears complete although the end of the pin may have broken off. The pin reaches just to the base of the bow. It is a one piece brooch with a bilateral spring. The bow has convex sides with its widest point in the centre and narrowed ends. At the base of the bow it curves back up to form a hook shape with a globular knob on the terminal.
The patina is a mix of green and brown patches.

Cast lead weight with a copper alloy plate on the upper face, Early Medieval in date.
It is circular in plan and stands 17.23mm high. The base is lead and is plain. The decorative plate on the upper face is copper alloy. It has a raised central circle which has an incised six petalled flower in the centre. The outer edge is sextfoil in shape with a small lobe in between each lobe. Each lobe has a sub-circular perforation in its centre through which the lead of the base protrudes.

Cast copper alloy head from a Limoges style figurine of Medieval date.
It is a fragment of a mount from a processional cross, dating to circa AD 1200 to 1300. The mount is in the form of the crucified or 'suffering' Jesus, and would have been attached to the processional cross in the centre at the top.

Blue opaque glass diamond-faceted bead of uncertain date.
It is 8mm long and 5mm in diameter. It is rectangular with facetted corners at each end. There is a central cylindrical hole running the length of the bead.
It is possibly Roman or Early Medieval in date but it is impossible to be certain when found as a stray find. Guido’s book on Anglo-Saxon beads (1999, 50-51) says they could be Roman but some are also found in 6th century (and later) graves.

Cast copper alloy Post Medieval breeching dee. It is assymetrical with a D-shaped loop linking to a slightly narrower rectangular section, the end bar of which extends on both sides past the frame. The D-shaped loop has a circular cross-section, the rest of the object has a rectangular cross-section.
This object looks like a buckle, but is in fact a harness fitting which helps to brake a vehicle going downhill so that it doesn't press on the horse's rump. It is known as a breeching dee.

Originally this would have been a pointed oval in plan but one end has broken off before the point. It is curved when viewed from the side as the ends would have touched the attachment plates and the handle curved outwards from this to form a space.
It has been silvered/tinned on the outer face, most of which remains. It is also decorated with parallel grooved lines which follow the shape of the handle. The edges are slightly uneven and worn with green patches showing through.

Large shield shaped lead weight, late Medieval- Post-Medieval in date.
It is most likely to be a trade weight. It has decoration in relief on the front and is flat on the reverse. The decoration consists of a raised shield shape leaving a lower border. In this there is a central fleur-de-lis with a design above which is slightly unclear but could be a cross with longer horizontal arms than vertical ones.

Medieval copper alloy ewer spout, dating to the 15th century. It was cast separately from the rest of the vessel and soldered on via a long sloping seam.
The spout quickly tapers to become tubular with a moulded dogs head decoration on the spout terminal. The dog has slightly raised mounds for ears, its snout and eyes are represented by a concave depression with a sub-square spout protruding from its open mouth. Cast copper alloy quatrefoil Medieval harness pendant dating to the 14th century. It has four rounded lobes with a triangular lobe in between each. It is decorated on the front face with enamel with a raised border around the edge. Crowned I in an azure field with azure and gilding in the charge. The pendant has an attachment loop at the top. Roman silver finger-ring of keeled type, the hoop widening to triangular angular shoulders which are decorated by grooved lines running away from the bezel. The ring is mounted with a prominent oval bezel consisting of a blue glass (?) intaglio encased within a box setting. The intaglio portrays Mars kneeling left, holding a shield in front of him and a spear across his body. It is a very fine engraving and the folds in his tunic as well as gathering at his waist can be seen. He has a fold of material draped over his arm. He possibly has a laurel wreath on his head.

Cast lead 17th century horse and rider 2D figurine.
It is decorated on the front in relief but is flat on the reverse with no decoration. It is 40.42mm high.
The figure sits on a horse with his head facing forwards. He has one arm outstretched towards the horse's neck and the other on his hip forming a triangle. His head has broken off at the neck but the finder recovered the head. He is wearing a hat and has shoulder length hair. He has four large circular buttons down his coat and some decoration on his ruff and the edges of his coat.
