Anglo-Saxon pin, balloon headed in shape, 8-9th century in date. The pin appears complete with the shaft tapering to a point, although it is slightly bent. There is a small raised collar where the shaft meets the head. The head is globular with circles punched in around the edge.

Cast copper alloy pin head, Post Medieval in date. Most of the shaft is missing, having broken just below the head, it is circular in cross section. The head is solid and is decorated with swirling/floriate tendrils across the head. It appears to be mimicking the more delicate silver gilt pins made with wire metal from this period.

Copper alloy sheet pin head from a Post Medieval pin, 16th century in date. It is sub-spherical and hollow, the head having broken away from the shaft of the pin. The head has a strip of copper alloy which runs over the top from the base back to the base. The base has a circular hole, which is where it would have attached to the pin. On each side is a rose design, possibly the Tudor rose which has been punched into the sheet. Diameter of 13.84mm x 15.41mm

Cast copper alloy Early Medieval polyhedral pin, dating to the 8-9th centuries. The pin head has four main faces, each with a ring-and-dot motif on. They are all facetted at the corners giving the head the polyhedral effect. There is a small moulded collar between the head and the shaft. The shaft is sub-circular in cross-section and is corroded and worn along its length although originally it would have tapered towards the end. The shaft is broken before the end.

Cast copper alloy Roman hand pin, Cool Group 7. This type of pin has a hand holding an item, either an egg, pomegranate or apple. This example is probably an egg. The hand is holding the egg at the end of its fingertips and is held straight up from the wrist. The egg has a flat base which appears broken. It has been decorated with grooved criss-cross lines forming a lozenge shaped lattice pattern. The wrist is rectangular in cross section and has a hollow at the base, presumably to attach it to the pin.

Cast copper alloy Early Medieval pin, dating to the 10-11th centuries. It is complete with the pin shaft being circular in cross-section and ends in a point. The other end hasa flat, almost lozenge shaped terminal with a flattened end and small extensions on each side. There is a central circular hole. Kevin Leahy has seen an image of this find and comments 'The best known example of this sort of pin is the one found inthe grave of Archbishop Wulfstan of York (obit. 1023) (Campbell, 1982, 201) but others are known from York.
