2 small rolls of lead sheet, unkown date and function. The upper one (in the image) has a weight of 11.3g, is 36.73mm long and has a diameter of 10.30mm. The lower one (in the image) has a weight of 11.4g, is 31.19mm long and has a diameter of 9.41mm. The Romans did have curse tablets which consisted of writing a curse on a small piece of lead sheet and then rolling it up before offering it to the gods, many have been found in the spring at Bath. Lead item, possibly an impression from coins. It is an irregular shaped piece of lead, convex on one side, which has no decoration/marking, and flatter on the other side, which appears to have impressions of three circular items, perhaps coins. Sam Moorhead comments 'At the moment it is difficult to tell much about this item, but it is worth recording for the future comparison in case similar items are discovered'.

Lead weight, of uncertain date. It has a thick iron core which has a circular section and has started to corrode and lose its shape. The weight itself is conical in shape with a flat upper and lower edge. The lead is a dark grey which suggests it is not pure lead.

Cast lead possible Roman weight. It is cylindrical, with a central iron core, which would have become a loop, but has now broken. Roman steelyward weights are usually biconical, not cylindrical but this example does have the iron core like the Roman ones, so it is possible it is Roman rather than Post Medieval.

Lead weight, possibly Roman in date. It is conical in shape with a rounded top and slightly irregular. The flat edge is the upper face and this has a central depression- possibly where an attachment loop once was. The surface is irregular all over due either to corrosion or poor casting of the weight. It was too heavy for my scales which go up to 200g. It has a length/height of 43.36mm and a diameter of 41.70mm.

Post Medieval lead button. It has been cast with the loop integral to the button. The button is sub-circular in plan and domed. The decoration is cast in relief. The decoration consists of a figure-of-eight with an oval dot inside each loop- running horizontally. There is a circular dot at the top and bottom, on the centre line. In the rest of the field are various horizontal and vertical raised lines.

Lead cloth seal, 16-17th century in date. It is part of a two disc cloth seal with the two discs being pressed together. They are broken on all edges, originally having been circular in plan. The front disc has a stamped design in the form of a hanging sheep. There is a legend around the outside although most is now missing it reads ...ED ....ROSS* A hanging sheep or the golden fleece is the symbol for Leeds and it seems likely that this is a seal from a company/ person involved in the cloth trade in Leeds. Possibly someone named Ross.

Lead Medieval- Post Medieval token. It is sub-circular in plan, having a serrated edge all the way around. The front has been decorated with an 8-pointed star, with lines radiating from the centre to each point, it has been engraved/scratched onto the surface. The reverse is plain. There are hundreds of different designs of lead tokens and they were used for a long period of time for various purposes such as gaming, weighing etc. As stray finds they are very difficult to date precisely.

Cast lead weight from the Medieval- Post Medieval periods. It is tear-drop shaped and the extended end has a circular cross section. There are some scratches on the surface, probably plough damage. It weighed more than 200g and so my scales could not weigh it. Generic weights such as this are difficult to date precisely when found as stray finds.
