Lead weight, Post Medieval in date.
It is sub-rectangular in plan with rounded corners. It has a circular perforation at the top end for attachment. It has been suggested that this sort of weight could be used as fishing weights but they have many purposes.

Two lead weights, Post Medieval in date.
They are sub-rectangular in plan, being rounded and slightly narrowed at the top end. They each have a circular perforation at the top end, presumably for attachment. The base is flat but there is a concave rectangular slot underneath. It is thought this sort of weight was used for fishing but they could have many purposes.
Both weights were too heavy for my scales- which go up to 200g.

Cast lead cylindrical weight, Medieval-Post Medieval in date.
It is cylindrical with a large circular perforation all the way through. The ends are slightly rounded. The outer surface has some grooved lines, most likely caused by the plough as they are irregular and do not seem to be decoration.

Lead Medieval toy jug.
It is missing the handle but otherwise is complete and unusually for this type of object has not been squashed flat and so still retains its original shape. It has a bulbous lower half with a flat base. It then narrows to a thin circular-sectioned neck. The base of the handle still remains at the junction with the neck and the lower half. There is some damage on the surface in the form of dents.
It is decorated on the lower half with vertical raised lines. These stop at the junction with the neck and there are two horizontal raised lines with some decorati…

Cast lead lid from a small pot, probably Post Medieval in date.
It would have been circular when complete but it is missing one part and has also been bent out of shape. It has some cracks also.
The upper face is decorated with a design in relief. It consists of a central circle with lines radiating out to the edge. Inside the circle (although not clear on the image) is face with pointed oval eyes, a long nose and a small pursed mouth. It is probably meant to be the sun.

Cast lead Medieval ampulla.
An incomplete cast lead pilgrim ampulla of Medieval date (c. 1350-c. 1500). The ampulla is incomplete. The suspension loops are missing (only the stubs have survived) and the mouth has ragged breaks. The neck is relatively long and flares outwards and upwards from the body towards the mouth.
The front of the ampulla is decorated with bold radiating ribs producing a corrugated surface resembling a scallop shell, although this does not extend to past the handles to the neck. The scallop shell was an emblem associated with St James the Greater and one tha…

Large shield shaped lead weight, late Medieval- Post-Medieval in date.
It is most likely to be a trade weight. It has decoration in relief on the front and is flat on the reverse. The decoration consists of a raised shield shape leaving a lower border. In this there is a central fleur-de-lis with a design above which is slightly unclear but could be a cross with longer horizontal arms than vertical ones.
It was too heavy for my scales whcih go up to 200g.

Rectangular lead weight, Post Medieval in date.
It is not quite a rectangle, one end being narrower. It has a grooved pattern on the front, probably meant to represent a scallop.
It is possible this was used as a trade weight and that the scallop symbolises a certain weight.
