Button and loop fastener or strap terminal Cast copper alloy button and loop fastener or strap terminal. This fitting has a flat trefoil 'button', formed from three adjoining circles. The loop (cast in one piece with the 'button') projects backwards from the rear of the head, the shank starting from the centre of the trefoil. The shank emerges at 90° to the 'button', bending as it nears the loop, which is at an angle of around 30° to the 'button', in the same plane. Terret ring fragment Fragment of a very robust copper alloy terret ring. It is broken at both ends, leaving only a small section of the full ring. The ring is circular in cross section, and is decorated with a double lip moulding. There is a drilled circular hollow on the interior face of each lip, which may originally have been filled with enamel. Terret ring fragment Fragment of a copper alloy terret ring. It is broken at both ends, leaving less than a quarter of the full ring. The ring is circular in cross section, and is decorated near one end with a double lip moulding. There is iron corrosion all along the fragment, which obscures some of the surface detail, but it is possible that this piece has been mis-cast. Copper alloy metalworking waste (two pieces) Two amorphous droplets of copper alloy waste, silvery in colour. Measurements: Max length: 15.5mm; weights: 4.8g and 3.4g (total 8.2g) Metallurgy: XRF analysis of the surface of these objects confirmed that they are composed of high-tin copper alloys (around 30% tin), with traces of zinc. Both also contained low levels of gold and silver. In the case of the smaller droplet, the gold content was higher, at around 10%.
