Copper alloy Medieval buckle and plate, It is mostly complete. Circular in plan with a hook extending out from one side. It has a central strap bar, consisting of a strip wrapped round both sides of the buckle. The pin is attached to the strap bar, again this consists of a strip wrapped around the strap bar. A triangular plate fits onto the plate, and extends into the other half of the buckle from the pin. It has a section cut out where the pin fits and has a circular hole at the apex of the triangle. The plate measures 15.54 x 12.49mm.

Cast copper alloy buckle fragment from the Medieval period. Just less than half remains. It would have been D-shaped with a narrowed strap bar. The terminals of the buckle before the strap bar are zoomorphic heads with the strap bar coming out of the animals mouth. The animal is possibly a dog, similar to the style seen on Late Medieval ewer spouts. A similar buckle can be seen on the database recorded as NARC-B9F980

Cast copper alloy Early Medieval buckle dating to c. 900- 1200 AD. It is D-shaped in plan with a narrowed strap bar. The terminals of the loop are zoomorphic in form with the strap bar connecting two heads of animals. These are stylised animals seen on various objects from this period and could be dogs/dragons/dolphins, it is difficult to see. They have a rounded head with inset eyes and an elongated snout. The strap bar is worn and very narrow at one point, the pin is missing. The buckle has an even patina of reddish-brown.

Cast copper alloy Early Medieval buckle, dating to the 10th-11th centuries. It has a plate cast integrally to the frame with a split end, imitating strap ends of this period. The plate is sub-rectangular narrowing slightly towards the frame. There is a hole at the base where the pin is fitted. The pin is formed by a strip of copper alloy hooked through this hole. The buckle frame is square with a triangular extension at the end away from the plate. The outside is decorated with punched angular dots in a line around. Cast copper alloy Post Medieval buckle. It is square in plan with rounded edges. It has a separate spindle (made of iron) which still has the pin and part of the plate attached. The frame is decorated all over with grooved lines. The two vertical edges having simple lines from one edge to the other. The horizontal edges having a criss cross pattern. In profile the buckle is slightly curved. This sort of buckle dates from about 1650 - 1750 AD. Buckles in a similar styles can be seen in Whitehead.

Fragment of Medieval (1250-1350) copper alloy buckle frame of Meols Type 11, consisting of the outside ‘roller’ edge and a short part of the adjoining frame at either end. The outer edge is really all that remains with the narrow pointed terminals being all that is left of the frame. Egan and Pritchard (1991) illustrate a similar frame, (p. 72-3 ref. 293), and Whitehead (2003) p.9 no.11. A similarly broken buckle has been recorded on the database as WILT-4D30F2.

Cast copper alloy buckle and plate. Meols type 7, 13th-14th centuries in date. It is a single oval shaped buckle with a narrowed offset strap bar. The plate is sub-rectangular, narrowing slightly towards the end away from the buckle. It is made from a folded over sheet which is smaller and narrower on the reverse. There are three circular rivets holding it in place, running the length of the plate. The pin fits into a slot at the top of the plate and is formed by a straip of copper alloy folded over the bar. The pin is incomplete. The surface of the buckle has been gilded.

Cast copper alloy lozenge shaped annular Medieval buckle or brooch. The frame is angled upwards towards the centre. It has a large lozenge shaped hole in the centre across which the pin lies diagonally. It is formed by a strip of copper alloy folded through a hole in one corner of the brooch. The upper surface of the brooch is decorated by a band of incised lines around the whole of the brooch. The brooch has been silvered or tinned on the surface.
