Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Darlington
Workflow stage: Published
Cast copper-alloy Early Medieval harness link, consisting of a small central dome with two arms, each terminating in a circular loop with three projecting knops. The central domed section has a projecting knop at the top and bottom. The surface is corroded and uneven with a base red-brown colour and patches of green.
These harness links are well known from Britain and Scandinavia although their precise function is uncertain. A very similar item, although with four arms in a cross shape has been recorded on the database already and can be seen at LVPL-876B97.
