Post Medieval lead item, most likely a powder flask or measure. It has a rectangular box shaped top section, which is slightly squashed. Attached to the top section is a rectangular sectioned shaft. Powder was most likely scooped into the top box section before pouring. The shaft may have been to fit it into something or to stand it up.

Medieval lead pilgrims ampulla, dating to c. 1350- 1530. It is flask shaped in plan, as with most ampullae it is fairly flat, although the neck of this example is open. It would have had 2 handles, one on each side but one has broken off. The remaining example shows they were triangular, and placed at the base of the neck. A casting seam can be seen along both edges of the ampulla. One side of the rounded lower half is decorated with a central shield, with its border raised. Lead item, possibly an impression from coins. It is an irregular shaped piece of lead, convex on one side, which has no decoration/marking, and flatter on the other side, which appears to have impressions of three circular items, perhaps coins. Sam Moorhead comments 'At the moment it is difficult to tell much about this item, but it is worth recording for the future comparison in case similar items are discovered'.

Cast lead possible Roman weight. It is cylindrical, with a central iron core, which would have become a loop, but has now broken. Roman steelyward weights are usually biconical, not cylindrical but this example does have the iron core like the Roman ones, so it is possible it is Roman rather than Post Medieval.

2 small rolls of lead sheet, unkown date and function. The upper one (in the image) has a weight of 11.3g, is 36.73mm long and has a diameter of 10.30mm. The lower one (in the image) has a weight of 11.4g, is 31.19mm long and has a diameter of 9.41mm. The Romans did have curse tablets which consisted of writing a curse on a small piece of lead sheet and then rolling it up before offering it to the gods, many have been found in the spring at Bath. It has raised decoration on both faces, which appears to be the same. It consists of lines radiating from the centre, splitting the surface into 6 sections, these sections then have raised circular dots, between 3 and 5.

Lead shield shaped Medieval trade weight. It has a raised design on the front face of a fleur-de-lis, which has been slightly blundered. There is a lowered border around the edge. The reverse is flat and plain. This type of weight would have been used by merchants at fairs, markets or shops to weigh goods. Lead Medieval seal matrix, c.1200- 1400. It was originally vesica shaped but has broken almost in half. It is also bent so that the edges now curve slightly downwards. The central motif appears to be either a corn ear or another plant. The inscription reads 'S'INCH....' So it is a person seal, unfortunately not enough of the legend can be made out to work out who owned it. On the reverse, near to the top is a small rounded loop, now filled with mud.

Lead Medieval- Post Medieval token. It is sub-circular in plan, having a serrated edge all the way around. The front has been decorated with an 8-pointed star, with lines radiating from the centre to each point, it has been engraved/scratched onto the surface. The reverse is plain. There are hundreds of different designs of lead tokens and they were used for a long period of time for various purposes such as gaming, weighing etc. As stray finds they are very difficult to date precisely.
