Cast copper alloy Post Medieval belt fitting. It is S-shaped and is decorated in the form of a snake. It has a head at one end with the tail at the narrower end. One side is decorated with lines all the way down, the other side has the eyes on the head and raised spots. edit 07/02/19 (BW): the record for similar fitting WREX-8A351 states: "These S-shaped 'snake belt' fasteners were probably associated with sword belts in the 17th and 18th centuries. A cast copper alloy strap fitting dating to the Post Medieval period, c.AD1550-1600. The fitting is S-shaped in plan with the object narrowing at each end with swan head terminals. The strap fitting is slightly flattened at the midpoint and decorated with leaves projecting from the middle band on each side. An example illustrated in Read (2008, 230: no.825) is dated to the mid-16th century, and is from sword-belt.
