Copper alloy cast Roman terret, probably a pole-mounted and knobbed type dating to the 1st- 2nd century AD. The loop is circular with three knobs, one at the top and one on each side. The two side knobs have been worn down. The loop itself is also worn through at one point, most likely from use. The loop has a rounded section below, which was decorated with two transverse grooves (now almost worn away) which then narrows to a rectangular sectioned, thinner terminal. This presumably would have been where it attached to the cart or chariot.

These decorative sub-circular loops have three circular knops at similar intervals around their outside edge. The loop is set on a slightly raised panel on top of the skirt. The skirt comprises four triangular extensions out from the centre, almost like a four pointed star. One of the points has …

Cast copper alloy Roman decorative fitting, probably harness, of Taylor and Brailsford (1985) Type 3. It would have been lozenge shape in plan when complete. It is incomplete having missing the lower quarter. The two side quarters are taken up by the hollow circular domes which have a groove around their bases. The two domes are linked by a small rectangular section. The upper and lower quarters have a triangular perforation before a triangular domed section which is also hollow on the reverse. The lower of these has broken off. It is comparable to an example illustrated in Taylor …
