Fragment of Roman pottery- body sherd, it has an orange fabric with an orange glaze on the outer face, similar to Samian. The outer surface is decorated with grooved lines, seemingly in a concentric circle pattern. A comment from a member of the public highlighted that this is a fragment of Samian mortarium as the 3rd photograph shows a well worn surface with grit and the circles patten is the base. 'It could very well have been manufactured at Colchester during the 2nd century. It is very limited with distribution in eastern England.' Reference no. 3010.
