Central section of a copper alloy Post Medieval purse bar.
The purse has a rounded oval central loop to attch the purse to the belt. This has a flared collar immediately above the bar, and then a narrower rounded length slots through the boss in the centre of the bar and is secured by a thicker area below the boss. This attachment allows the loop to rotate.
The boss is a rectangular block. It is decorated on one face with incised diagonal lines criss-crossing. The arms of the bar have a circular cross section. One of the arms of the bar has broken almost immediately after the bos, the other has broken before the end but more survives. It has a slightly widened collar as it leaves the boss.

Cast copper alloy handle, possibly from a drawer, Medieval in date.
It is unclear whether the ends are broken, and so the piece is complete. The main part is C-shaped in plan, with a small extension at one end. It is facetted, giving it a pentagonal cross section. Marks can be seen on the surface which are file marks.

Cast copper alloy Early Medieval buckle dating to c. 900- 1100 AD.
It is D-shaped in plan with a narrowed strap bar. The terminals of the loop are zoomorphic in form with the strap bar connecting two heads of animals, their mouths are open, almost as though they are biting the bar.
These are stylised animals seen on various objects from this period and could be dogs/dragons/dolphins, it is difficult to see. They have a rounded head with inset eyes and an elongated snout. The strap bar is worn and very narrow at one point, the pin is missing.
The buckle has a reddish patina, with some cream and green patches of corrosion.

It is a mount, which would have had a loop to attach hanging pieces to the belt. It is a pointed oval shape in plan, with the main body being domed and hollow on the reverse. At the top is a circular hole, where a rivet would have attached the mount to the belt. The lower end is solid, and has a collar made of three moulded horizontal lines. Cast copper alloy Roman penannular brooch, a Fowler Type A3, dating to c.100- 350 AD.
The brooch itself is complete, although the pin is broken. The brooch has been squashed out of shape, probably whilst in the ground. It has golbular terminals, each with a single moulded collar. One of the terminals appears to have an extra bit of metal, it could be a mis-cast which was not cleaned up. The pin was formed by a strip of wire folded over the brooch, the loop remains but it has broken before it extends to the pin.

Cast copper alloy circular ring, with flat upper and lower faces, and facetted edges, giving it an almost hexagonal cross section. This object could have been used as a harness fitting, but it is impossible to be sure of its function.
Parallels: Rings like this could be put to many uses, and are found on sites of all periods, so it is impossible to be certain of an Iron Age date for this find. However, a similar, although slightly larger, ring was also reported as part of the related 1843 material (M.95)

Inlaid with enamelDistrictCertain2DUR21986Restricted Accessx41218105396.7Richmondshire106272013-06-12T16:52:58ZSubmitted for consideration as TreasureYorkshire and the HumberCircaStrap fitting/ Mount
Fragment of an enamelled cast copper alloy mount. This object appears to have been rectangular in plan when complete, although it may have formed part of a larger mount or fitting. The long edges of the rectangular plate have a lip projecting downwards. The object is broken along both of the shorter sides. The upper surface is decorated with inlaid enamel. This is laid out in a symmetrical herringbone pattern, on either side of a central dividing line. Traces of enamel remain. The mount has a rectangular-sectioned pin projecting on the reverse, in a perpendicular plane. This pin is now close to one end, but may have been in the centre of the original object when complete.
Parallels: There are no parallels from the related 1843 hoard, but this form of enamelling is common on late Iron Age and early Roman mounts from northern England (see e.g. MagGregor 1976, no.s 19, 29, 32 and 37).
Measurements: Length: 21.83mm; height: 14.17mm; width: 15.33mm; weight: 6.7g
Metallurgy: This object is composed of a copper alloy. XRF of the corroded surface of the metal revealed several percent zinc. Tin and lead were also detected, and iron corrosion products were present, indicating contamination from neighbouring items during burial. The black, bubbly inlaid material contains bright red particles which suggest it was once a red cuprite glass, perhaps subject to burning before burial. The bright blue and green coloured material is copper corrosion and was not part of the original colour scheme.Emma Traherne121.837Richmond AreaDUR-61C69744766721MOUNTRestricted Accessfinds-4476671115.338DUR-61C246Incompleteimages/frances/1332165PAS4DF61C24001C7342011-06-13T15:18:13ZCertain1ROMANCopper alloy414301Circahttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/CertainEnamelCivil Parish2022-07-14T07:10:05.544Z
