I have examined a group of 16 coins reported found at Stapleford, Lincolnshire All of the coins are silver and 14 of them are official English coins, which will therefore be of the traditional sterling standard, over 90% fine metal. Two of the coins are foreign in origin, but are of types found in English contexts quite frequently in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Lead Post Medieval token, 17-18th century in date. It is circular in plan with decoration in relief on both faces. One face has a four pointed star, the other is unclear due to wear. Tokens such as this could have been used for a variety of purposes, gaming, counting, weighing etc and were used for a long period.

Lead Post Medieval token, 17-18th century in date. It is circular in plan with decoration in relief on both faces. One face has an anchor, the other appears to be a representation of a palm leaf with a central vertical line, and multiple lines coming off at both sides, facing upwards. Tokens such as this could have been used for a variety of purposes, gaming, counting, weighing etc and were used for a long period.

Central section of a copper alloy Post Medieval purse bar. The purse has a rounded oval central loop to attch the purse to the belt. This has a flared collar immediately above the bar, and then a narrower rounded length slots through the boss in the centre of the bar and is secured by a thicker area below the boss. Cast copper alloy Post Medieval belt fitting. It is a mount, which would have had a loop to attach hanging pieces to the belt. It is a pointed oval shape in plan, with the main body being domed and hollow on the reverse. At the top is a circular hole, where a rivet would have attached the mount to the belt. The lower end is solid, and has a collar made of three moulded horizontal lines. Below this is the remnants of the broken attachment loop which is set perpendicular to the mount.

Cast copper alloy fragment of a Post Medieval drawer handle. It has a strip of copper alloy folded over through the top loop, presumably to attach the fitting to the drawer. The main body has a rectangular attachment loop with protruding corners and a raised lower line. It then narrows to a neck, before widening into what would have been a sub-rectangular body with leaf/floriate design on the front. This has broken only a short way down.

Cast copper alloy Post Medieval fob seal, mostly likely 19th century in date. It is made completely of copper alloy, with the seal section being just a flat oval disc of copper alloy (measuring 17.49mm by 14.84mm). The symbol on the seal is a masonic symbol, The Square, Compasses and Letter 'G'. This is one of the most common symbols of the Freemasons. There are varying theories as to what it represents. The arms of the seal form a robust openwork design with floriate decoration, terminating in a circular attachment loop, set perpendicular to the seal.

Cast copper alloy early Post Medieval dress hook/fitting, Read class A, Type 2 (p.168-171). It is sub-oval in plan with a rectangular loop at the top and three attachment knops, one at the bottom, and one on either side. Each of the knops has a circular perforation for attachment. Below the top rectangular loop is a double collar consisting on two horizontal lines. It has been engraved/punched on the front for decoration, the reverse is plain. Cast copper alloy clapper bell, Post Medieval in date. It appears to have been tinned on the surface as it has a silvery looking patina. The bell is complete but is missing the clapper. It has an integral copper alloy attachment loop at the top, this has broken so the loop is open. The bell flares at the base, and on the inside is written the alphabet, it appears to have been cast into the design. Gold Post Medieval finger ring, uncertain date. A plain gold band, with a slightly raised central ridge on the outside. The ring has been squashed out of shape but originally but have been round. The band is thin, and flat on the inside. Judy Rudoe (British Museum) has seen an image of this ring and is happy that it is undiagnostic, so cannot be assigned a pre-1700 date. As such it does not constitute Treasure.

Four disc lead late Medieval- Post Medieval cloth seal, unused, dating to 1400- 1800. It is complete, and has been folded in half, but not put together, and not stamped with any design. Disc 1 has the conical stud on the reverse, which fits through the hole of Disc 4. The seal has been folded at the connecting strip between Discs 2 and 3. Each of the discs is sub-circular. Without any markings on it is not possible to date this example more closely as cloth seals were used over a long period of time.

Cast copper alloy strap fitting, probably a strap junction, from the Post Medieval period. It is circular in plan (37.511m x 32.37mm) and slightly domed. . The upper surface is decorated by four sets of curved lines, in pairs, coming from the centre of the fitting, to the edge. There are also two circular perforations, one of which is now filled up with corrosion. It has two prongs on the reverse, which are quite 6.90mm wide, project 9.12mm down, and are sub-triangular in plan. These probably fitted onto the strap, or another plate.

Post Medieval lead item, most likely a powder flask or measure. It has a rectangular box shaped top section, which is slightly squashed. Attached to the top section is a rectangular sectioned shaft. Powder was most likely scooped into the top box section before pouring. The shaft may have been to fit it into something or to stand it up.
