Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: East Riding of Yorkshire

Large shield shaped lead weight, late Medieval- Post-Medieval in date.
It is most likely to be a trade weight. It has decoration in relief on the front and is flat on the reverse. The decoration consists of a raised shield shape leaving a lower border. In this there is a central fleur-de-lis with a design above which is slightly unclear but could be a cross with longer horizontal arms than vertical ones.
It was too heavy for my scales whcih go up to 200g.
