Early Medieval, Viking, lead weight.
It is circular in plan and flat with a copper alloy plate set on the top face. The copper alloy setting looks like a gilt bronze Irish disc, possibly a stud with the lug removed. In the centre of this is a small circular red stone or perhaps glass. This glass forms the centre of the decoration with three swirls, almost peltate in design coming from the centre. There is then a raised outer rim. In the spaces between are small grooved lines.

Early Medieval lead weight, Viking in style; sub-circular in plan, and flat. It has glass set into the top face in a sub-circle. Early Medieval lead weight, Viking in style, sub-circular in plan and domed. It has glass set into the centre of the top face in a sub-rectangular shape. The glass appears to be a fragment cut from a bracelet or bead. It is light blue with strands of red and white running through. The rest of the weight is plain and undecorated. On the sides and base are some small grooves, probably caused by the plough whilst in the ground.
There is a lead weight set with a glass bangle fragment from Dumbarton Rock, Strathclyde where the glass is the usual blue and white of Irish bangles. The red i…

This record was edited and the date of the object reassessed following reappraisal by Prof. Julian Richards. A similar weight, although cylinder shaped rather than conical, was found during excavations of the 9th-century Viking settlement at Woodstown, Co. Waterford, Ireland (see: Russell and Hu…

Surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate gold content for the strip of 92-94%, with a silver content of 5-6%, the remainder being copper; it weighs 1.57 grams.
The find consists of a length of narrow gold strip of triangular section with punched decoration of apex-to-apex triangles along the top ridge; it is broken at both ends; length, 32.5 mm. The decoration is very worn and abraded in places and there are cracks along the edges caused by distortion. The surface of the base is unworn, however, except for slight abrasion at one end. Copper alloy tweezers on a circular ring, probably Early Medieval in date, c. 600- 1100 AD.
The ring is plain and appears to have been cast, it has a circular cross section. The diameter of the ring is 21.63mm with a thickness of 2.66mm. The tweezers themselves are symmetrical and have been attached to the ring by folding in half, over the ring. They have a D-shaped cross section, with the flat side facing inwards, most of the way down, until they being to widen, and flatten out at the terminals. The tweezers are corroded and some of the edges are uneven. The surface is pitted and …

Cast copper Anglo-Saxon strap end, Thomas type A1, Trewhiddle Style, dating to c. 800-1000 AD.
The strap end tapers towards a zoomorphic terminal. It is almost complete with only one half of the split end missing. The half that remains has rounded corners and two circular holes, both of which have raised borders, where it would have attached to the strap. In between the two holes is a raised vertical line which separates out into two, which widen towards the end. In between these two widened ends is an upside down V.

Copper alloy Early Medieval strap end, 9th- 10th century in date.
Thomas Class A, it has a split end, is convex sided and has a zoomorphic terminal. It is worn and corroded on the suface so the decoration on the body is difficult to define. It could be Trewhiddle style which would define it as Class A Type 1 but this is not definite. The zoomorphic terminal consists of an animal head, with the nose and ears picked out in relief. At the split end there are two circular holes for rivets to attach the strap end, these rivets are now missing.

Cast copper alloy late early-medieval strap end dating from c. the 11th century.
It appears to have been cast in one piece. The arms are rectangular in plan and at the top there is a circular rivet running through both which would have attached the strap end to the strap. At the base of the arms is a raised square. At the base of the strap end is a decorative terminal in the form of a floriated cross in saltire. This is decorated with grooved lines marking out the cross. The reverse of the strap end is flat and undecorated.

Cast copper alloy Early Medieval strap end, 10-11th century in date.
Tongue shaped, with an incomplete attachment end. The attachment has broken on one of the two loops, this end is thinner than the rest of the plate. The plate is decorated on one side with a degenerate Winchester style motif formed of a series of reserved cells creating a symmetrical plant scroll motif. The strap-end has a dark brown surface, with reddish-brown adhesions (particularly in the recesses), probably gained from its time in the ground.
Thomas class E, Type 1 (2004, p. 1-2).

Cast copper alloy Early medieval stirrup strap mount. Williams Class B, Type 3, Group 9, dating to the 11th century.
The mount is sub-triangular in plan, with a circular extension at the apex. This would originally have had a circular hole in the centre through which a rivet would have gone to secure the mount. The remains of the rivet appear to have corroded onto this and so the loop appears solid. It has raised decoration on the front and is plain on the reverse. It has one central motif which consists of a forwards facing animal head, possibly a deer. This is set on a raised bos…
