Early Medieval lead weight, Viking in style; sub-circular in plan, and flat. It has glass set into the top face in a sub-circle. The glass is a light blue colour (although this may be due to deterioration) and has cracked, with a small fragment missing. The edges of the weight are rounded and the sides and bottom are plain and smooth with no marks or decoration. Early Medieval, Viking, lead weight. It is circular in plan and flat with a copper alloy plate set on the top face. The copper alloy setting looks like a gilt bronze Irish disc, possibly a stud with the lug removed. In the centre of this is a small circular red stone or perhaps glass. This glass forms the centre of the decoration with three swirls, almost peltate in design coming from the centre. There is then a raised outer rim. In the spaces between are small grooved lines.

Cast copper alloy Early Medieval polyhedral pin, dating to the 8-9th centuries. The pin head has four main faces, each with a ring-and-dot motif on. They are all facetted at the corners giving the head the polyhedral effect. There is a small moulded collar between the head and the shaft. The shaft is sub-circular in cross-section and is corroded and worn along its length although originally it would have tapered towards the end. The shaft is broken before the end.

Cast copper alloy Early Medieval strap end, 10-11th century in date. Tongue shaped, with an incomplete attachment end. The attachment has broken on one of the two loops, this end is thinner than the rest of the plate. The plate is decorated on one side with a degenerate Winchester style motif formed of a series of reserved cells creating a symmetrical plant scroll motif. The strap-end has a dark brown surface, with reddish-brown adhesions (particularly in the recesses), probably gained from its time in the ground. Thomas class E, Type 1 (2004, p. 1-2).

The arms are rectangular in plan and at the top there is a circular rivet running through both which would have attached the strap end to the strap. At the base of the arms is a raised square. An incomplete copper-alloy bell of Early-Medieval date. Most of the bell chamber survives with just the bottom edges being uneven due to breaks. It is faceted and tapers towards the top, where there should be a loop but this is now missing. The artefact is heavily corroded. A similar bell was found at Meols, Cheshire (Griffiths et al 2007: 69/pl. 75, no. 390). They are increasingly thought to be characteristic of the Danelaw in the 10th century (for further discussion, see Griffiths et al 69-70).

Copper alloy foot of an Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch dating from the 5-6th centuries. Only the foot remains, having broken just aboe the horse-head terminal. The broken end is uneven and has the half-round panel at the top. The eyes are raised circles inside hollows on each side below this panel. Next there are two grooved lines running the length of the terminal which widen at the bottom to mark the spatulate extension. On either side are the nostrils which are circular, with spiral decoration.

Cast copper-alloy Early Medieval harness link, consisting of a small central dome with two arms, each terminating in a circular loop with three projecting knops. The central domed section has a projecting knop at the top and bottom. The surface is corroded and uneven with a base red-brown colour and patches of green. These harness links are well known from Britain and Scandinavia although their precise function is uncertain. A very similar item, although with four arms in a cross shape has been recorded on the database already and can be seen at LVPL-876B97.

Copper alloy Early Medieval strap end, 9th- 10th century in date. Thomas Class A, it has a split end, is convex sided and has a zoomorphic terminal. It is worn and corroded on the suface so the decoration on the body is difficult to define. It could be Trewhiddle style which would define it as Class A Type 1 but this is not definite. The zoomorphic terminal consists of an animal head, with the nose and ears picked out in relief. At the split end there are two circular holes for rivets to attach the strap end, these rivets are now missing.

Cast copper alloy Early Medieval buckle dating to c. 900- 1200 AD. It is D-shaped in plan with a narrowed strap bar. The terminals of the loop are zoomorphic in form with the strap bar connecting two heads of animals. These are stylised animals seen on various objects from this period and could be dogs/dragons/dolphins, it is difficult to see. They have a rounded head with inset eyes and an elongated snout. The strap bar is worn and very narrow at one point, the pin is missing. The buckle has an even patina of reddish-brown.

A complete lead weight or gaming piece, inset with glass, from the Early Medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) period (AD850-1000). It is conical in shape with a wider base.
