Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Windsor and Maidenhead

A Medieval copper alloy incomplete mount (AD1066-1500). The fragment has three rounded lobes. Each lobe is perforated; the middle lobe has the corroded remains of a rivet present; the other rivets are missing. The broken edge has the same patchy mid-green patina as the rest of the surface, suggesting the damage occurred in antiquity. There appears to be some cast decoration on the front surface where the middle lobe may have a moulded floral motif present. Thick gilding remains in large areas on the front surface.
