A Post Medieval ceramic vessel rim fragment of Westerwald stoneware, dating from c. AD 1650 to 1800. The fragment consists of the rim with a raised collar below it. Beneath the collar is a plain purple coloured area, created by using a manganese wash. The Westerwald district of the German Rhineland began producing stoneware in this area from the 15th century onwards, and production was well established by the end of the 17th century. The use of manganese began to be used after c. AD 1650.

A Post Medieval ceramic vessel fragment or Frechen or Bellarmine type salt-glazed stoneware, dating from c. AD 1500 to 1750. At one end of the fragment is part of a stamped decoration within a circular or oval border. Bellarmine jugs and bottles were made in Germany, particularly in the town Frechen, from the 16th century onwards. Imports to Britain peaked during the early 17th century and by the early 18th century, similar wares were being produced in Britain.

A Medieval to Post Medieval lead alloy trough for cage birds, often referred to as a 'bird feeder'. The item is D-shaped in section, being flat at the back and rounded at the front of the vessel. The sides gently taper downwards to the base. The front is decorated with two horizontal moulded lines. Egan (2005) lists four examples of birdcage troughs which were for 'holding water, green plants or seed for cage birds'. An assemblage of 17 Medieval to Post Medieval ceramic vessel fragments. The assemblage of coarseware pottery sherds includes rim and body sherds; some have very slight traces of yellow glaze on the interior. The fabrics contain quartz inclusions. the pottery is probably locally made in the South Hams area (pers comm, John Allan, November 2015) and are of 17th to 18th century date.

A Medieval to Post Medieval ceramic coarseware vessel handle fragment. The handle is cylindrical in form with a circular section and has a gently arching bend. The fabric is a buff colour with frequent micaceous inclusions. There are no traces of glaze on the handle. The handle may date from 14th to 15th century and is probably a fabric type local to the South Hams area (John Allan, pers comm November 2015).

A Post Medieval ceramic coarseware vessel handle, probably from a jug. Just below the top of the handle (where the handle joins the rim) are three circular perforations, with a smaller perforation below. The fabric is a buff colour with small inclusions, probably of mica and haemetiite, there are larger inclusions of quartz. Small traces of dark green- brown glaze are visible on the surface of the handle. The handle is likely to be local North Devon/South Somerset ware.

The design on the fragment appears to be a schematic representation of an animal; possibly a lion, advancing or standing right with tail angled downwards and head looking forwards. Most fragments have a mid to light-brown glaze; some fragments of North Devon sgraffito ware with yellow glaze are also present. The items are all abraided.
