Description:  A small silver gilt badge or mount cast into the form of a five-petaled rose flanked by antlers. Extensive gilding remains on the front of the badge, covering the antlers and cross hatched centre of the rose, but leaving the petals white. The back is plain, with clear file marks and the scar left by a soldered loop, probably of silver, but now lost. Dimensions: The badge is 13.7mm long by 15.3mm wide and is 2.1mm thick; it weighs 1.63g. Discussion: The piece appears to be a mount in the form of a livery badge. The rose appears to have been deliberately left silve…

A Post Medieval copper alloy item; possibly for use as a decorative mount or fitting for furniture or horse harness equipment. The item is circular in plan with rough edges. The front face has a moulded decoration in the form of a gazelle or a goat bounding left with knees bent and tail curling over the body. The item has no rivet holes or spikes for attachment visible, so perhaps this item fitted into some kind of a frame which itself contained means of attachment to other objects.
