An incomplete Post Medieval copper alloy two piece buckle frame, dating from c. AD 1660 to AD 1720. The buckle frame is broadly rectangular in plan; the short ends are rounded. There is a groove for a pin rest at the centre of either short end. The spindle and pin are missing. This type of buckle was probably used as a shoe or knee buckle. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead (2003), p 99, number 617.

The buckle frame is rectangular with rounded corners and has a decorative moulding in the middle of either long side. The spindle and pin are missing. This type of buckle was probably used as a shoe buckle. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead (2003), p 102, number 656.

A Post Medieval copper alloy double loop trapezoidal buckle frame, dating from c. AD 1620 to AD 1680. The short sides of the frame taper outwards to a central point. There is a knop above each end of the integral strap bar. The buckle frame is abraided. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead (2003), p 82, number 513.

A Medieval copper-alloy annular buckle frame with integral central bar. One of the loops has two constrictions on the outer edge; one above and one below the strap bar. Both loops are decorated with transverse grooves. The pin is now missing. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead (2003) p 46, number 266, which is dated from AD 1400 to 1500. The frame is broadly rectangular in plan with rounded corners. The frame end is lobed at the centre and has a wedge or triangular shaped groove. The remaining loop may ben from an asymmetrical buckle frame. See Whitehead (2003; p91, number 571) for a similar example dated from c. AD 1575 to 1700.

At each end of the spindle hole, the curve is decorated with oblique grooves. The frame is drilled at the centre to take a seperate spindle. The spindle and pin are missing. A Medieval copper alloy D-shaped buckle frame. The front face is raised and decorated with a series of oblique grooves. The back face is flat and undecorated. The pin is missing. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead (2003: 11 no. 19) which is dated from c. AD 1250 to 1500. Egan and Prichard (2002; 90, no 397) list a buckle frame of similar form, but without the oblique grooved decoration, which is from an archaeological context dated c. AD 1330 to 1380.
