Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A lead alloy weight of unknown date. The weight is conical in shape. The base has an uneven sub circular indentation, which suggests it may have been mis- cast. The item weighs 13.66 g (0.48 ounces). Weights of this kind have been in use for many centuries; therefore it is difficult to attribute a more precise date if they have not been recovered from an archaeological context.

Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A lead alloy weight of uncertain date. The weight is circular in plan and both faces are flat. There are traces of an iron attachment hoop on one face. There are no stamps or marks visible, apart from a linear line on the lower face but this is probably occured due to damage. Weights of this type have been in use from the Roman period onwards, and as the find has no archaeological context, it cannot be specifically dated. The weight weighs 420g, which is equal to 14.815 ounces. Therefore the weight was probably originally intended for use as a 1 lb (pound) (or 16 ounces) weight.
