The object is a copper alloy buckle plate, probably dating to the medieval period, (mid-twelfth to sixteenth centuries); although an early medieval date cannot be ruled out. The buckle plate is complete. In plan the object is small, sub-rectangular and narrow. The buckle plate was hammered from a single piece of copper alloy sheet; which was then folded in half to create a recess for a frame. Looking at the front of the object one can see that originally the plate was secured to a strap by a single iron rivet, which is sub-circular in plan and approximately 2.9mm in diameter. …

The object is a fragment of lead alloy. It is 18.9mm wide, 21.9mm long, 5.1mm at its thickest point and weighs 11.63g. In plan the object is sub-oval. While in profile it is D-shaped with the reverse of the object being flat and smooth, and the obverse of the object being rounded and rough in texture. The top of the object is bent and a sub-triangular portion of of the object has folded over on itself. The object is dark grey colour with smaller white patches. The date of the fragment is unknown. The fragment is possibly indicative of metal working.
