The object is a probable stud/nail/mount which Margeson (Margeson, S. 1993 Norwich Households: Medieval and Post Medieval Finds from Norwich Survey, Excavations 1971-78. East Anglian Archaeology 58) attributes to the post-medieval or 16th century to 17th century. As an example Margeson, fig. 528 illustrates a copper alloy stud, which she suggests was probably used for furniture, but may also have been used for horse-harnesses. The stud illustrated in Margeson however, is more complete and slightly larger than the recorded object. The object is cast copper alloy.
