A medieval, cast copper-alloy single-looped buckle. Description: The frame is sub-oval in shape and a flattened oval in cross-section. It is has an enlarged, ornate leading edge which has an angled knop at each side, each flanked by a transverse ridge. There is no notch for the pin. The strap bar is offset, narrowed and is circular in cross-section. The pin is missing. Measurements: Length 21.34mm: Width 24.98mm: Thickness 4.37mm: Weight 3.77g. A cast copper-alloy, annular buckle of medieval date. Description: The buckle is circular in outline and oval in cross-section. There are the remains of a copper-alloy pin loop attached to the frame but no constriction in the frame to hold it in position. The frame is undecorated except for an integrally-cast groove running around the centre on each side. Description: The plate is rectangular in shape, folded at one end to fit the strap bar of the buckle, with a central notch cut out to accommodate the pin. . There is a single drilled hole for a rivet near to the attachment end of the plate. The rivet is missing. On one side of the plate, the edge of the attachment end has a semicircular notch in it. It is rectangular in cross-section with a slightly convex upper surface. Description: The buckle is sub-triangular in plan and D-shaped in section with an offset and narrowed bar. The front of the buckle is decorated with three, cast copper-alloy, dome-headed rivets, one attached to each angle of the frame. Description: The plate is rectangular in plan, narrowed at one end, and folded over to fit the strap bar of the buckle with a central notch cut out to accomodate the pin. There are five drilled holes for attachment rivets, one near to each corner of the plate and one in the centre. Four of these holes contain dome-headed copper-alloy rivets with the fifth rivet missing from one of the corner holes. There are traces of gilding over the front surface. A post-medieval, cast copper-alloy loop chape from a two-piece shoe buckle. Description: The frame of the chape is "cooking pot" shaped with a single, internal spike on the widest side. The narrower side has a curved internal edge whilst the outer edge is thickened and drilled to accept a steel spindle. This is now corroded away and only iron corrosion stains remain. Description: The chape is sub-triangular in plan and consists of a folded sheet copper-alloy frame with a single, raised, mushroom-shaped stud attached at the narrower end by riveting it through the frame.
