Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper alloy unidentified object. It consists of an almost spherical terminal(13.7mm x 12.6mm)with a parallel pair of arms 5.8mm in width and 3.5mm apart, which project for a length of 10.75mm. Both are incomplete, broken off across a circular rivet hole. This method of attachment is similar to that of a strap end, and this object is most likely to have been fixed to wood or leather. The object measures 23.2mm in overal length and weighs 5.83g . A Post-medieval date seems probable for its manufacture.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
a lead object, most probably a weight. It is triangular 29.6mm in length, 16.8mm wide and between 8.5 and 9.5mm in thickness. Taking the width as the base of the object, the upper terminal, 9.3mm wide, has an oval-shaped hollow a few mm deep at the top . The base is not quite flat so the object does not stand. It weighs 34.6g. Whilst it resembles the medieval 'standing' weights of the 12th to 13th centuries, its lack of flat base and upper terminal loop make this less likely.
