A cast copper alloy Medieval figurine from Limoges. It is complete but bent and cracked across the centre, no doubt due to plough damage. The figurine is that of a three-quarter length figure cast flat but with a solid head which is flattened at the back. The figure is worn with a dark green-brown patina, and is depicted wearing a garment that hangs in folds thus creating cells that were originally filled with enamel. The features of the face are indistinct but a close-fitting hood which outlines the face and covers the ears can be determined. The eye sockets are circular, one being…

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A gold finger ring of Post-Medieval date. It has a plain hoop measuring 20.6mm in external diameter, 16.97mm in internal diameter, and the hoop width 5.5mm. It weighs 7.01g. There is an inscription on the inside of the hoop which reads:" As true to the as death to me ,". Judoe Rudoe, BM, notes that the inscription was in use by 1624 (recorded by Joan Evans) but there is no datable maker's mark, and the ring could be 17th or 18th century in date. The inscription is probably not a mourning one in the sense of commemorating a deceased person but rather a memento mori or reminder of death.

Object type: STUD
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
an incomplete silver stud of possible Roman date. It is circular, about two-thirds extant, with parts missing due to old breaks, and part of the circumference folded back on itself. The stud has moulded decoration, depicting a face, probably that of a lion, with eyes, nose, mouth and ears, and a mane above. Decorated studs normally have a central shaft, lacking in this example, which may have been attached by solder, of which there may be traces on the reverse. An example of a decorated lion head stud, with a shaft, from Hatcheston is illustrated in Blagg et al, 2004, no.260.
