A copper alloy Roman figurine fragment. It is a human hand with thumb and index finger extended to form a fork shape, holding an object with the other three fingers curved around the back. The object is zoomorphic, having an oval shape with two forward-pointing ears, no eyes, and a snout that forms a pronounced knop, with a horizontal groove suggesting a mouth. The fragment measures 21.95mm in surviving length, 9.8mm in width, 6.8mm in thickness, and weighs 4g. A representation of the god Mercury, holding a purse, discovered at a temple site at Bruton, Somerset, bears some resemblance…

a copper alloy Roman figurine fragment, in the form of a human right foot. It is solid and incomplete, broken off at the ankle. The foot measures 30.17mm in length, and 11.46mm in width across the toes, narrowing to 6.56mm at the heel. It is 15.3mm in height, to the top of the broken edge at the ankle, which is hollow and semi-circular. The foot weighs 14.88g. A figurine, in the form of a leg with foot discovered in Porthcasseg, Gwent, has similarly moulded toes, all except the little toe being of similar length, and the foot being slender. The figurine from Gwent is estimated to ha…
