a medieval copper alloy harness mount. It is an elaborate quatrefoil shape, (quatrefoil with pointed knops at the intersections) with a suspension loop turned at an angle of 90 degrees. It measures 34.16mm in length and 24.73mm in width. It weighs 6.99g. The surfaces are worn and have corrosion products adhering. The front face has traces of a gilded crown, just below the suspension loop. Below this is a shield containing the letter W or 'V V' intertwined and infilled with red enamel, the points of the descenders of which are reflected in the pointed shape at the base of the sh…

A copper-alloy strap end of Rogerson and Ashley's blunt-ended Romanesque type, Type 1. It is rectangular, but incomplete, measuring 28.09mm in length and 23.38mm in width. It weighs 7.11g. At one terminal there are four flat rectangular, evenly spaced bars forming an openwork pattern. They terminate in a horizontal bar with a rounded corner. Below this on one face only is a single incised line of decoration, which divides the strap end into two halves. The lower part has a ring and dot motif in the one complete corner, and a circular perforation 4.9mm in diameter close to…

Object type: SPEARHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Middle Bronze Age copper alloy spearhead blade fragment. It has a lozenge shaped section with midribs becoming flattened toward the tip terminal. The wings narrow toward the edges which do not survive. The cross section is solid at the tip but shows a circular socket at the butt end broken terminal. There is extensive corrosion on all surfaces. The blade fragment measures 78.71mm in surviving length, 20.75mm in width at the centre, tapering to 11mm at the incomplete tip. It is 14.85mm in thickness at the butt end break, and weighs 39.33g. This blade fragment is probably part of a sid…

the tip of a Middle Bronze Age spearhead. It is narrow with a pronounced mid-rib, and 14mm of the socket survives into the head. The edges are worn due to invasive corrosion with surfaces also affected, especially on one face. The survivng surfaces are patinated to a deep brown, but elsewhere the spearhead is a pale-medium green. The mid-rib has a relatively angular lozenge-shaped cross-section which suggests a Middle Bronze Age date. It measures 75mm in length, 16mm in width, and is 8mm in thickness, weighing 13g. It is probably from a side or basal looped spear head.

Copper alloy spearhead of probable Late Bronze Age date. It is socketed, with the socket running through close to the tip terminal, suggesting it is made from lead bronze, and also that it dates to the later Bronze Age. The profile is lozenge-shaped, and there are two channels between the midrib and the blade edges. The fragment measures 25.98mm in surviving length, and is 27.46mm wide at one terminal, tapering to 18.6mm near the tip terminal. It weighs 15.24g.

A Middle Bronze Age copper alloy spearhead tip. It is triangular with a lozenge-shaped section, and solid with no trace of a socket visible at the broken terminal. The edges are damaged with no original wing edges surviving. The tip is blunt and bent probably through use. All the breaks and damage appear to be ancient, and there are patches of corrosion on the edges, and dark brown patination overal. The spearhead tip measures 24.32mm in surviving length and 17.81mm in surviving length at the incomplete edge where it is 8.63mm thick. It tapers to 4mm in thickness at the tip and weighs …

Object type: SEAL MATRIX
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Medieval cast copper alloy seal matrix of fourteenth century date. It has a circular face, the back of which has six, worn facets which taper into the handle. This terminates with a trefoil-shaped suspension loop perforated with a roughly circular hole. Below the loop is a slight groove before a collar 3.95mm in width. The seal matrix measures 23.97mm in length, and weighs 10.35g. The face bears the clear image of a stage with a cross caught in its antlers. This is the symbol of both St Hubert of Lieges and St Eustace. The face is very similar to an example from Sussex (SUSS-D18397)…

Object type: SOCKETED AXEHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
the blade end of an Early/Middle Bronze Age axehead. It has an expanded crescentic blade with recurved ends. The blade has a marked dent, possibly resulting from use damage. It has been tooled to give a rounded blade edge . It is incomplete, with a narrow rectangular cross-section visible at the broken terminal. The form and lack of moulding seams on the sides suggests that it is likely to be a fragment of a flanged or winged axe rather than a palstave. There are slight indications of the beginnings of possible wings or flanges at the break. There is extensive corrosion pocking on the …
