A copper alloy Roman bow brooch. It is a Colchester derivative Polden Hill type, with folded wing ends similar to Hacheston no.77 (Plouviez 2004, 94-5, fig.63). The pin, spring and catchplate are missing, as is the axis bar. Part of the backward facing hook survives. The flaps at the wing ends are 6.75mm in width and there are diagonal and vertical grooves decorating the outside of the wings. a copper alloy Roman bow brooch fragment, trumpet type. It is the mid and upper bow only, with a trumpet head 13.7mm in width and a complete spring loop. It has three petal shapes separated y two peltas decorating the upper bow, the central petal with white enamel infill still remaining. There is moulding, consisting of a longitudinal rib, and transverse lines and banding across the entire bow fragment. It measures 30.12mm in length and 5.56mm in width across the bow, weighing 6.76g. The decoration ressembles that of Hattatt 432.

an incomplete copper alloy Roman bow brooch, Hod Hill type. The head, pin and axis bar are missing, due to old breaks. There is longitudinal moulding on the plate between the two side knobs. It measures 34.7mm in length, and the width across the side knobs is 14.77mm. There is a bar of transverse moulding below the side knobs. The surface is corroded but traces of a white metal coating are visible. The leg is plain, and the foot knob and catchplate are intact. The brooch weighs 2.79g. A similar brooch from Colchester is illustrated in Crummy, 1983, no.30, and dates to the first century AD.

The upper hole in the lug holds the the spring chord, which has two coils at one terminal, is straight through the lug, and broken of at the other terminal. The bow is incomplete, and the survivng length is 18.85mm. There is a single, longitudinal grooved line down the centre of the bow, which is D-shaped and slightly hollowed. The brooch fragment weighs 3.14g. Similar examples from Hatcheston include fig.63, no.88.

a copper alloy Iron Age bow brooch fragment. It is the bow only, which is arched and flat-backed. The bow is an oval shape, with moulded decoration outlining the edges, and a single central longitudinal ridge . Both terminals are incomplete, due to old breaks. The bow measures 28.78mm in length and is 10.73mm maximum width in the centre, tapering to 2.25 and 3.2mm at the terminals. It weighs 7.29g. Similar brooches are illustrated in Hull and Hawkes 1987, pl.323,such as nos 2923, 7376 and 2931. They are part of the Type 1B classification, and date to the fourth century BC.

a copper alloy Roman bow brooch fragment. It may be part of a P-shaped brooch, consisting of the semi-cylindrical spring case and the upper part of the bow, the rest missing due to old breaks. The spring case is 10.3mm in width, with part of the spring coils in situ but corroded, and the pin is missing. The bow is flat-backed and D-shaped. The fragment measures 19.6mm in length and weighs 1.97g. An example with a similar shape to its upper part, is illustrated in Hattatt no.493, although it has a wider spring case. Brooches of this type date to the late 2nd to mid 3rd century.
