a copper alloy medieval swivel. It has a D-shaped loop with part of an integral bolt concealed within a mass of iron corrosion. The loop is 17.16mm wide and 13.96mm in length. It would originally have been attached to a second loop, via the bolt fitting in a hole in the bar of the second loop. The latter may be present but hidden by the corrosion. The overal length of the object plus corrosion is 31.32mm and it weighs 8.5g. Swivels were a multi-functional item used in connection with strap fittings, and generally of medieval date. A similar example from Elveden can be seen, SF-42C322
