A copper alloy possible spoon handle of probable Roman date. It could also be part of a balance arm or toilet instrument. It consists of the shaft only, which measures 72.08mm in length, and is square-sectioned and c.2.5mm in width for about half its length. The shaft then swells to c.3.9mm in width and has a more rounded section. Both terminals are incomplete due to old breaks. The object weighs 4.28g. An incomplete copper alloy spoon or spatula of Anglo-Saxon date. It consists of the handle and part of the bowl or blade, which is incomplete due to old breaks. The object is made all in one from sheet metal, and has a narrow rectangular handle, a little twisted, but the handle and bowl appear to be flat, on the same plane. The handle measures 61mm in length, and its terminal is rolled round (down and away from the decorated face) to form a loop. a copper alloy object of probable Middle Saxon date. It is a narrow strip of metal, one terminal of which is a flat triangular plate 9.87mm wide with two holes pierced very close to the edge. Holding the object horizontally by this terminal,it has a stepped profile extending for a length of 43.25mm before turning at right angles for a length of 22mm, and turning again at 120 degrees and continuing to its opposite terminal, a further 41mm in length. a Roman copper alloy spoon bowl. It is shallow and circular, with the edges of the bowl worn and abraded, and has a surviving diameter of 25.45mm. There are traces of white metal coating, particularly within the bowl rather than on the underside which is also worn. The flange of the handle attachment survives on the underside. The spoon weighs 3.97g. Roman round spoon bowls have been found at Colchester and are classified as type 1 by Crummy who dates them to the second half of the 1st century and the 2nd century AD. A Roman silver spoon bowl. It is shallow and circular, 26mm in diameter, with a convex moulding within the bowl, c.3mm below the rim. It is complete except for a short length of rim, broken off just above the moulding. The underside of the bowl shows an oval scar where the handle would have been attached.
