a copper alloy colchester derivative bow brooch fragment. Only the foot and catchplate survive and the rest of the brooch is missing, due to old breaks. The base of the bow is triangular in cross section, with reeded decoration. The fragment measures 54.18mm in length and 15.94mm in width, narrowing to a terminal knop 4.18mm at the foot terminal.

a copper alloy Roman bow brooch fragment, trumpet type. It is the mid and upper bow only, with a trumpet head 13.7mm in width and a complete spring loop. It has three petal shapes separated y two peltas decorating the upper bow, the central petal with white enamel infill still remaining. There is moulding, consisting of a longitudinal rib, and transverse lines and banding across the entire bow fragment. It measures 30.12mm in length and 5.56mm in width across the bow, weighing 6.76g.
The decoration ressembles that of Hattatt 432.

A copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester-derivative Polden Hill type (folded wing ends, Eastern Group). The short wings are folded round to form enclosed sections at both ends, which are 4.25mm wide. The width of the brooch across the wings is 21.54mm. There is a rearward facing hook to hold the spring chord and there are 6 coils, with an incomplete pin 10mm in length. The bow has been bent round out of shape, and measures 40.85mm in length. a copper alloy incomplete Roman bow brooch, of Colchester type. It is a one-piece type, with bow of rounded cross-section, and foot and catch-plate incomplete. It has a forward-facing hook, and short flat wings, with spring, pin and chord missing. It measures 44.58mm in length and 10.12mm across the wings. The brooch weighs 3.96g. A similar (complete) example was excavated from Hacheston, Suffolk. (see Blagg, Plouviez and Tester, 2004, no.63)

A copper alloy Roman bow brooch. It is a Colchester derivative Polden Hill type, with folded wing ends similar to Hacheston no.77 (Plouviez 2004, 94-5, fig.63). The pin, spring and catchplate are missing, as is the axis bar. Part of the backward facing hook survives. The flaps at the wing ends are 6.75mm in width and there are diagonal and vertical grooves decorating the outside of the wings. The bow is slightly curved and is oval in section, with two longitudinal grooves decorating the centre. The brooch measures 57.6mm in length and 29.53mm in width, weighing 11.5g

a copper alloy brooch of Iron Age date. It is formed from a continuous strip of metal, with a mostly circular cross section, with the catchplate forming one terminal of the bow, the head formed by coils and the pin terminal missing. The brooch measures 65.84mm in length and 12.95mm in width at the head. The catchplate is 16.66mm in length and 6.42mm in width. The head is composed of a bilateral spring, which is bent at right angles to pass over the tops of the coils, where it is broken off.

The bow has an 'S' shaped curve from head to foot, with a patch of corrosion in the centre, and is plano-convex in section. The wings are short and semi-cylidrical, with two incised lines of decoration close to each edge. The bow has two ribs of decoration running longitudinally to a transverse ridge, with the lower part terminating in the fanbow shape. This is outlined with a worn incised line down both edges, and a single line down the centre of the bow. The remains of the catchplate project at right angles from the centre back of the brooch. The bow has two panels of fluting, and knobs on either side at the top. There are traces of tinning on the upper surface. The fragment measures 15.23mm in length and 20.96mm in width, weighing 1.62g.
Hattatt illustrates a similar example from Norfolk, (1985, fig.25, no.320). Hod Hill type brooches date to the first century AD

a copper alloy Roman bow brooch fragment. It is the end of the bow with the catch-plate. The bow measures 25.39mm from the incomplete terminal to the foot, which has a small moulded knop at right angles. The catch plate forms a narrow triangular shape, wih some corrosion within the fold. It is 9.04mm in width, and weighs 1.38g.
The shape of the bow foot terminal suggests it is likely to belong to a Colchester derivative bow brooch, and to date to the first century AD.

an incomplete copper alloy Roman bow brooch It consists of the bow, head and spring case, with the catch plate and pin missing. The wings are semi-cylindrical, and widened to form part of the upper bow. The lower part of the bow tapers to a narrow, incomplete terminal. The wings have grooving, and the upper bow has a crest rib forming a perforated lug extension or loop on the top of the brooch. There is pronounced V-moulding below this, down the bow. The brooch measures 32,88mm in length and 29.12mm in width. It weighs 10.34g.

a fragment of a copper alloy Roman brooch. It is the upper part of a crescent type Aesica brooch, with incomplete wings. The fragment measures 21.8mm in length and is 17.35mm wide, weighing 4.8g. There is a loop on the front face, forming an oval void, 16mm in length, 7.65mm wide at the top and flaring to 11.35mm wide at its base. It rejoins the body of the brooch as a narrow strip 4mm wide. The crescent and lower part of the brooch are missing, and the fragment has much corrosion.
