A sheet copper alloy Post Medieval book clasp, 1550-1700 AD. It is complete but bent and folded, damaged whilst in the ground. It is a rectangular plate, the central section having indented edges. There is a ring and dot at the centre of the plate, and the upper surface is covered with tiny circular stamps. These are arranged in bands of two rows at each short edge and then randomly across the clasp. There are also tiny sun motif stamps, punched dots and rocker decoration. A sheet copper alloy Late Medieval or Post Medieval book clasp. It is rectangular with a curved hook protrusion at one terminal, and a flared fish-tail shape at the other. The latter has wavy edges. There is a circle and dot decoration at the centre of the clasp, and there are two rivets just above the flared part of the terminal. There is a further rivet, placed near the centre and close to the hooked terminal. The book clasp measures 34.46mm in length, 9.25mm in width, 14.5mm in width across the flared terminal, and weighs 2.52g.

A copper alloy Medieval book clasp of Howsam type A.1.2, with a hinged plate and loop. The plate is formed from folded sheet metal and is rectangular, tapering from its open terminal, and recessed to fit the arms at the cast terminal, to which it is attached by a separate copper-alloy pin, thus forming a hinge. A Post-Medieval copper alloy book clasp. It is a triangular-shaped plate, with a straight upper edge from which two arms extend up and curl over to form a hinge and there are traces of the iron bar which originally ran between them corroded within. The sides taper gently and tchampfered at the lower terminal, coming almost to a point. In the centre of the plate there is a rivet hole, with a slight indent from a mount and/or rivet now missing. A sheet copper alloy Post-Medieval book clasp. It is rectangular, with shaped edges which create a mirror-image pattern to both long sides. There is a hooked terminal at the centre of one short edge. The opposite terminal is rounded, with a central rivet hole perforation. There is a split in the metal which runs almost the full width of the object and may be the result of plough damage. The book clasp measures 44.11mm in length, 14.78mm in width and weighs 4.32g.

A copper alloy book clasp of Post-Medieval date. It is made from sheet metal, with an elaborate shape and decoration. One terminal consists of a rectangular plate 17.15mm x 13.03mm, with two protruding, cylindrical knops, which would have held a short bar, now missing. This would have formed the corresponding 'eye' plate to which a hooked clasp would have attached, in order to keep the book closed. A copper alloy Post-Medieval book clasp. It is the hookplate from a book-clasp, and is plain and rectangular, with a single central hook terminal at one end, and an expanded serrated edge at the other, the latter incomplete due to old breaks. There are traces of a single rivet near each terminal. The book-clasp is bent at right angles at its centre. Its extended length measures 57.6mm, its width 10mm at the hooked terminal and 13.37mm at the expanded trminal. It weighs 3.31g. Examples of similar types from Norwich date to the sixteenth to seventeenth centuries.

A copper alloy Post-Medieval book clasp. It is the rectangular front plate with a central hook at the upper terminal, and the lower edge flared and notched to give a frilled effect. There are two rivet holes placed along the longitudinal centre line, one each near the upper and lower edges,the lower having a rivet in situ. There are circle and dot motifs decorating the upper surface, which has much corrosion. The book clasp measures 40.5mm in length,16.68mm in width, flaring to 21.6mm along the lower edge. It weighs 4.47g.

A Medieval of later sheet metal copper alloy mount or fitting from a book or possibly a casket. It is approximately rectangular, with both long edges having a cut-away pattern, mirror-image on either side. One terminal is lobed with a protruding knop 2mm in height turning up at right angles to the mount. On the under-side is another narrow protruding knop, probably part of a catch mechanism. a copper alloy book clasp plate. It is rectangular, with one rounded terminal which has the remains of a short curved hooked projection at its centre, 4mm wide and 3.25mm in length. The two long edges are parallel, with a very slight flare, from 17.2mm wide at the hooked terminal, to 18.4mm wide at the opposite terminal.The latter is incomplete due to old breaks. The book clasp plate measures 38.37mm in surviving length and weighs 3.57g. The date range for such book clasps is from the thirteenth to the seventeenth centuries.

It is rectangular, with one short terminal rolled under to form an integral hook, and the opposite terminal slightly flared with two nicks along the edge. The clasp is pierced with one rivet hole in the centre close to the flared terminal. The upper surface is decorated with a convex roundel, surrounded by pellets and foliate design. The under-side is plain. The book clasp measures 52.22in length(two parts conjoined) and is 23.94mm wide at the flared terminal. It weighs 4.11g.

a copper alloy Medieval cast loop piece from a book clasp. At the top, the loop has a bar for attachment to a strap plate. Below this it becomes circular in the centre, pierced with a hole, and the reverse is flat. The loop piece terminates in a small loop, 2mm in diameter, set at right angles to the rest, its upper edge being facetted. The loop measures 15.82mm in length and 7.75mm in width, and is 2.38mm wide at its lower terminal. It weighs 1.63g. An identical piece has been found in medieval London, dating to the late 14th - early 15th centuries.
