A Roman silver spoon bowl. It is shallow and circular, 26mm in diameter, with a convex moulding within the bowl, c.3mm below the rim. It is complete except for a short length of rim, broken off just above the moulding. The underside of the bowl shows an oval scar where the handle would have been attached. The spoon bowl weighs 4.74g. Roman round spoon bowls have been found at Colchester and are classified as type 1 by Crummy who dates them to the second half of the 1st century and the 2nd centry AD.
