A copper alloy bead of possible Bronze Age, or later date. It is circular with a circular central piercing 6.7cm in diameter, and has flattened surfaces around the perforations. It is biconical and measures 15.93mm in diameter at its maximum width, 8.63mm in height, and weighs 8.05g.
The use of copper alloy for beads in the Roman to Medieval periods is not common, but there are a few examples on the PAS database. Some for which a Bronze Age date is suggested include beads from West Sussex, SUSS 61E555 and DF71D5. The latter is similar to the Brockley bead, though larger and heavier.
