The base of a wheel-made New Forest Slipped Ware vessel of late Roman date (c. 260-370 AD). The sherd measures 58.5mm by 40.3mm by 6.4mm and weighs 30.3g. The diameter of the base is 32.3mm. The fine fabric is a reduced light grey and the vessel has a dark grey slip both internally and externally (New Forest fabric 1a). The sherd is probably from a beaker rather than a bowl as the base is nearly flat and does not have a foot ring.

A ceramic sherd of probable Iron Age date. The body sherd measures 26.5mm by 24.9mm by 8.1mm and weighs 5.3g. The sherd has reduced dark brownish-grey surfaces, more oxidised mid-brown margins and a dark brownish-grey core. The fabric is reasonably fine with abundant fine sand. The exterior is decorated with two parallel lines of small incised dots.

A wheel-made ceramic sherd of probable Roman date. The grey ware rim sherd measures 55.7mm by 39mm by 5.6mm and weighs 19.3g. The sherd is a reduced light to mid-grey throughout. The fabric contains abundant fine sand and mica. The rim is moderately everted, with a horizontal ridge just below it. The sherd probably formed part of a small jar.

An incomplete clay pipe dating from c. 1650-1700. The surviving portion comprises the bowl, heal and a short length of the stem. It measures 43.1mm by 31.2mm by 18.8mm and weighs 10.6g. On the heal is a stamp which reads GE/ORGE/WEB within a circle. George Webb was a Chard pipemaker (Leach 1984, p. 150).

Four pottery sherds from vessel of probable 16th to 17th century date. Three sherds are an oxidised orange throughtout and one has slightly more reduced buff external margins and surface. One sherd is externally glazed, two are glazed both internally and externally and the other has very degraded traces of glaze on the external surface only. All the sherds have reasonably fine and sandy fabrics. The smallest sherd is decorated with two parallel grooved lines on the exterrnal surface.

Two sherds of probable abraded Oxfordshire red/brown slipped ware pottery of late Roman date. One sherd is a rim sherd with external bead from a bowl and the other is a body sherd. Both sherds are oxidised, although the body sherd has a reduced light grey core. The fabric contains sparse rounded to sub-rounded iron ore (up to 3mm) and common mica. Little of the slip survives.

Four sherds of hand-made south-western black-burnished pottery of probable first to third century AD date. Two sherds are rims from everted rimmed jars and the other two are body sherds. The fabric is reduced with mild oxidation on the internal surface and margins of one sherd. The largest sherd has a 'sandwich' effect with a lighter grey core and margins. All the sherds have a black slip on the external surface, and the largest sherd is also slipped internally. The fabric is tempered with moderate rounded quartz sand and sparse other gritty inclusions.

Twelve sherds of south-east Dorset black-burnished 1 pottery of Roman date. The sample comprises one sherd which incorporates the full profile of the vessel (base and rim), one further base sherd, three further rims and seven body sherds. Two of the rim fragments are from flanged bowls, one is from an everted rimmed jar and the full profile sherd is from a plain shallow bowl ('dog dish'). Twelve fragments of clay mould fragments of unknown date. Five fragments appear have clear traces of the internal surfaces of the mould and the other pieces are all made from the same material. Their surfaces are lumpy and pitted. It is not clear what the mould(s) were used for although four of the five fragments which preserve traces of the internal surfaces of the mould have parallel lines on. The clay is very friable.

The sherd has a reduced mid grey core and more oxidised light grey to buff/light orange margins and surfaces. The fabric is micaceous with common very small black inclusions, sparse rounded iron oxide (up to 1mm) and rare sub-rounded pinkish quartz (up to 3mm).
