Iron Age copper alloy terminal of an unusual form of linch-pin. Circular-sectioned with incised ring on upper face, broad deep groove defining end and bordering engraved line on body with opposed oval-sectioned ‘arms’ tapering to points and flanking the corroded remains of an inserted sub-rectangular/circular-sectioned iron shank. Diameter 22mm. Length 32mm. Possibly 1st century BC/AD.

Finely detailed Snake-headed terminal from snake-ring, very similar to examples from the Snettisham jeweller's hoard, part of distorted oval-sectioned band decorated behind the head with small semi-circular stamps and oblique lines. cf. Early Anglo-Saxon circular escutcheon frame and integral hook of hanging bowl, with suspension ring engaged with the hook, disc missing. The frame, broken and distorted, is decorated with moulded transverse grooves, and is of D-section but chamfered on the reverse around the inner edge. The hook, which has been squashed down to touch the frame, terminates in an animal head with moulded brow, blind-hole eyes and jaws open to receive the rim. Late Saxon copper-alloy bird brooch in two pieces (recent break across neck). Missing parts include the pin, part of the double pin lug, the flap of the catchplate, the beak and both feet. The bird has a triangular tail with a wide transverse moulding at the junction of tail and body, a triangular wing projecting above the back, an aperture between the legs which probably rested on a "perch". Middle/Late Saxon cast copper alloy flat disc brooch. Around the circumference are 18 projecting tooth-like lobes, giving the brooch a cogwheel-like appearance. In the centre is a low lozengiform boss with a concave underside. Four approximately D-shaped perforations make an openwork cross (now broken across two perforations). Medieval lead papal bulla of Innocent III (1198-1216), ripped in half, preserving only the right-hand side (when looking at the obverse). The bulla is in worn condition and while the lettering is clear enough, no sharp details survive on the obverse side. Identification of the bulla is made more complex as the object survives as only about a third of the bulla. The lettering is thus: IO/IVS/II· The initial downward strokes are in fact the remains of other letters.

Abraded fragment of Romano-British/Early Saxon buckle with oval frame and integral plate, Most of both parts missing. Only small parts of the frame's sides are extant, and animal heads are visible flanking the pin hole. The plate was probably trapezoidal, although most of the sides and all of the attachment edge are missing. Remains of iron pin in pin hole and two iron-filled rivet holes. Of three transverse grooves two are cut by the pin hole. Hawkes and Dunning (1961) Type IIIB; Marzinzik (2003) Type II.1a. >17 x >20.5mm. Late 4th - 5th century.

Medieval copper-alloy seal matrix, flat, with rib ending in pierced lug at upper edge on reverse. Pointed oval, 33 x 21mm. Central motif: a profile tonsured male head to dexter (on the inscription, looking to left) with the hand of God with thumb and two fingers extended in blessing, other fingers bent, above. The motif is deeply cut and the matrix is partly perforated at the tonsure. Inscription: S' ROB'TI DE hATFELD CAPLLI (Seal of Robert of Hatfield, chaplain) between beaded lines. The hand is issuant from, and forms the initial mark of, the inscription; there is no cross or star here.

Fragment of medieval palimpsest monumental brass (engraved on both faces to re-use). Now in two pieces, this break is probably not very old. Total length 126mm. Width 53mm. Thickness 3mm.
The beginning of both lines of the primary inscription are missing as a result of an old break. Both lines of the primary inscription are truncated by a straight edge which was cut for the secondary inscription. A fixing hole placed to respect the secondary inscription passes through the base of the upper line.

The ring is of ovoid cross section. cf. examples of the same general form from Verulamium (Waugh and Goodburn 1972, no. 126) and Muircleugh, Berwickshire (MacGregor 1976, no. 59). Early Saxon head-plate and top knob from a copper-alloy cruciform brooch. Originally cast in one piece, they are now separate but joining; the fragment is in abraded condition and the bow and foot of the brooch are missing. The inner panel of the headplate consists of a pair of figure-of-eight knots in counter-relief within a frame of three lines of triangular stamps. The top knob has a projecting florid moulding.
