A cast iron ball, probably round shot, that is a cannon ball, dating from the Post Medieval period, about AD1500-1900. The object, which is pitted and corroded, has a diameter of c.100mm and a weight of 3919g, c. 4kg. In recording a similar piece Kinnear states: This corresponds closely with the dimensions and weight of four inch, 'nine-pounder' (weighing 9lbs) ordnance. Shot of this size were used in the 16th and 17th centuries in a gun known as the Demi Culverin. However, the shot could also date from the later period. Rim sherd from a closed vessel, probably a cooking pot, dating to the 11th to 12th century. The rim is everted and has broken at the point it met the vessel wall. A small amount of wall on the inner face suggests a c. 120 degree angle between them. Medieval cast copper alloy buckle frame with seperate copper alloy pin. The frame is D-shaped in plan and flat in section with rounded inner and outer edges. It has a widened and slightly thickened outer side to the loop and a slightly offset and thinned bar. There is a transverse groove across the front in the centre of the outer edge making a pin rest. The head and part of the bow of a Roman copper alloy hinged initial T-shaped brooch probably dating to c. AD 50-150. A fragment of a Post Medieval clay pipe. Most of the bowl and the heel survive, but damaged and the stem is missing. The bowl is set at about 60 degrees to the stem and is swollen with convex sides becoming straight only at the top. The rim of the bowl is plain. The heel projects with a large flat, circular base. A small fragment of a post medieval clay tobacco pipe, probably dating to the period c. AD 1680 to 1730. Only the heel and a very small part of the bowl survives. The heel is flat and oval shaped, and it is still possible to identify that the heel projects very slightly from the base of the bowl. Small fragment probably from the wall of a cast copper alloy vessel. The piece is an irregularly shaped piece of copper alloy, thickening towards one side. Three diverging raised ribs run from the thicker to the thinner side. 28.3mm long, 19.8mm wide and 5.3mm thick, it weighs 8.06g. The material, proportions and width apart of the diverging ribs suggests this is part of a cast copper alloy vessel near the point a leg projected out, rather than part of a socketed axe.
