Medieval copper alloy weight for a Ryal (Rose Noble). The weight is circular and flat with a raised design on one side only. The design is of the king with sword and square topped shield standing in a ship with rectangular bow and stern and a rose on the side of the ship. It is 17.3mm in diameter, 4.3mm thick and weighs 7.12 grams, 109.9 grains. A full weight ryal would have weighed 120 grains (Withers and Withers 1995, 68) but weights were normally made to the legal minimum weight which was slightly less and can lose weight through corrosion processes, this example is ery worn a…

Description: A complete post medieval gold “posy” finger ring, made from a rich yellow buttery gold. The band is narrow and D-shaped in cross section, with no external decoration or inscription. The Italic inscription is placed on the interior, and reads “Live in Love.” There is no clear maker’s mark, although a faint impression appears to resemble one, which is composed of three rings together within a rectangle. The artefact is incomplete head of a skimmer made and used in c.1400-1700 The object is a slightly concave, circular disc made from copper-alloy metal with almost concentric circles of 32 similar in size holes ranging from 2.5-6.5 in diameter. It has a segment missing (6-8 holes missing) from the side reducing it's width by roughly 14%. Fragment of a copper alloy item, probably part of the side of a large cast vessel. The fragment is irregular in shape with very worn breaks on all sides. One face has a raised ridge, a casting seam running down it, the ridge has been fettled. In profile the piece is slightly concave so the edges at each end of the casting seam curve upwards and the centre curves downwards. Cracking on the back suggests some of this is due to damage but the way the piece thickens slightly towards these edges suggests some might be original curvature.
