An incomplete silver mount of post-medieval date (c. 18th century). As well as having received numerous circumferential losses the edge has also been bent at one point. It was originally stud like, consisting of a broadly circular, flat head attached to a separate stem for attachment, the latter possibly of base metal. A rectangular scar from the stem is visible at the centre of the reverse. On similar mounts the circumference is clearly scalloped; this disc is either rather worn or was originally smooth. An unusual porcine fitting of the insular La Tène tradition, probably dating from the 1st century BC to 1st century AD. It is possible this fitting is for a vessel, but it is so far unparalleled in type. There are two other ‘head’ fittings known (OXON-6E3722 and HESH-06696B), but they are very different in design, and this find does not appear to be related to them. The mount is flat and has stepped long edges formed of conjoined trapezoids that decrease in size: three such trapezoids survive to form the present object. The plate is broadly rectangular, rounded at the surviving corners, having been abraded, and broken at the other short end where it has been bent upwards slightly as a result of old damage. From each shorter end of the body protrude a slightly raised trefoil terminal and flared terminal respectively. Each terminal features a pair of crude grooves to delineate the designs. A copper-alloy mount of uncertain date. It is symmetrical, formed of a sub-rectangular central plate with rounded triangular protrusions at each short end. It is thin, flat, and plain on both surfaces. The long sides both feature a semicircular cutout centrally. At the ends of the triangular protrusions is a small perforation for attachment; one of the holes has abraded through. The object has a dark-green patina where it survives but is otherwise corroded and lighter.
