Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete copper-alloy fob seal with surviving intaglio, dating to the post medieval period, c. AD 1700-1850. There is a cylindrical loop at the top of the object for attaching the fob to a chain. The loop is decorated with grooves creating a ribbed effect. The fob frame is formed of two mirrored sides, each forming an omega shape. The sides are fused at the top (below the attachment loop) but part as they reach the die frame, resulting in four feet. There is a convex protrusion below the attachment loop but from here the curvilinear arms taper …

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete silver mount of post-medieval date (c. 18th century). As well as having received numerous circumferential losses the edge has also been bent at one point. It was originally stud like, consisting of a broadly circular, flat head attached to a separate stem for attachment, the latter possibly of base metal. A rectangular scar from the stem is visible at the centre of the reverse. On similar mounts the circumference is clearly scalloped; this disc is either rather worn or was originally smooth. There are small punch marks in the spandrels between each lob…

Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle probably of post-medieval date.
The buckle was formed of a pair of oval loops; one has been lost to an old break at the junction of frame and pin bar. The extant loop has an effectively flat reverse, with possible central concavity from the casting process. The front is bevelled both externally and internally, the latter more steeply. There are hints of very small protrusions at each end of the pin bar. A thick sheet copper-alloy pin is still attached.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete early post-medieval lead-alloy spoon (c. 16th century, probably later 16th). The spoon has a pointed oval shaped bowl and a hexagonal stem; the stem terminates in a 'seal top' knop. It is now damaged, and bent, with repairs by the finder, including a sleeve that holds together the broken stem, and glue reattaching two parts of the bowl that had become separated. In addition, the bowl has been bent and has suffered losses. No marks are apparent in the bowl, or on the stem. On the reverse, at the junction of bowl and stem, is a 'rat tail'. The faceted s…

A cast copper-alloy uniface trade weight dating to the post-medieval period (early-mid 19th century).
The object is circular with a recessed upper surface within a prominently raised lip/rim. The reverse also has a small recessed area at its centre around a centring pit. Incised concentric circles around this presumably result from the turning process. The upper surface also has a central pit within a slightly raised border. This is surrounded by a pair of engraved concentric circles, with a further trio of circles between the last and the bevelling from the lip/rim. The lip/rim is it…

The abraded, and slightly bent, terminal of a post-medieval cast lead-alloy (pewter) spoon handle of late 17th-century date. Only this element of the flat handle remains; the rest is lost to an old break, while its own terminal is unclear due to abrasions. It is broadly trapezoidal, tapering from an expanded terminal. On the front it is decorated with a raised cast floral design: a flower, possibly a tulip, with large head and leaves emerging from a central stalk; any design below the ground on which this sits is unclear. The reverse bears initials P . L in low relief.

A copper-alloy vessel rim fragment of late medieval to early post-medieval dating (c. AD 1400-1700).
The rim fragment is irregular, broadly sub-triangular, in plan, with a cross section which has a slightly thickened upper lip section and thins as it travels down. The rim type consists of an internally rounded lip which would arguably have sat flat. The exterior and interior surfaces are unpolished and rough. The fragment is a dark green colour, with an uneven surface patina. There are possible traces of sooting below the internal under-hang of the r…

A cast, copper-alloy post-medieval asymmetrical buckle dating to c. 1575-1700, incomplete insofar as it is missing its pin.
One loop is broadly rectangular and the other loop is D-shaped. The inside of the D-shape loop has a pointed protrusion which could be where the pin rested. The pin bar is notably narrow, though the frame overall has suffered from corrosion, depriving us of much of the original surface and thus any decoration. The reverse of the buckle is flat.
