Very possibly a miscast 17th century button or a pattern for a button. There are two busts on the obverse, a royal crowned male bust on the left and a female bust on the right. They are looking at each other. The surface is extremely worn, however, and further detail cannot be made out. The two busts are possibly those of Charles Stuart and Henrietta Maria of France and button(?) commemorates their marriage in AD1603.

Cast lead-alloy medieval or post-medieval button dating from c. AD1400 to AD1600. The button is complete and in good condition, but miscast on the reverse. Its obverse is concave with a raised moulded decoration: curved lines which make up a cross with possible pellets inside. On the reverse, it should have an integrally cast loop, but it seems that the two halves of the button mould were misaligned and molten lead spilled into the bit on the inside of the loop which should have been perforated to sew the button to the garment. Similar to the decoration described on SUR-D9D131.
